W2 and Ringed Gidgee, not a bad combination.
The blade is selectively hardened W2, 7 ¾” long. The handle is made from a beautiful piece of (fairly Koa-like) Ringed Gidgee, and the guard and pin are 416 stainless. OAL is 12 7/8”, and the weight is 279g. The balance point is just ahead of the guard.

Another nice one Will. No wonder the Gidgee is Koa-like since they are both in the Acacia family and both some of the curliest woods around. I picked up some nice pieces from the Timber joint in Oz. Beautiful and aromatic but much heavier than I was expecting. Can't wait to dry it out and get it stabilized. Great lines on this knife but I think the guard could have been a bit longer. It's a small nit to pick and purely personal taste. I think you're doing amazing work.

Absolutely crackin' that one Will!

The blade looks perfect, but can you let us know what you did to the Gidgee (treated, oiled etc)

Cheers....Pete

Gidgee aka gidyea looks fantastic! As does the whole package.

It's a very versatile wood - excellent knife handles, fence posts (pest resistant & hard to burn) & fire wood (once its burn, very good coals).

Some is fairly plain however as you've proven, some is just beautiful.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Thanks Marc. I didn't know about the Gidgee/Koa relationship, but it seems obvious now! I see your point about the guard length, its something that I could definitely give more thought to.

Thanks Pete!
The Gidgee is unstabilised. I used a Danish oil for a finish.

Thanks Dicko. I'm glad this piece didn't end up as firewood!

Proportionately I see nothing amiss with the size of the guard. It's perfect and utilitarian for a 7 3/4" blade. I love the blade profile!

Very nice fighter Will!
