Here is a piece of Sambar Stag that I was able to keep 100% intact with no stock removal involved to make the various pieces fit!
In other words, from the face of the handle to the butt, no tapering was done to fit the spacer or butt cap - get it?
Now, the spacer is not a PERECT oval or circle, but, rather, made slightly out of shape to fit the face of the Stag.
Additionally, the butt cap was shaped to FIT the handle butt.
You get the point.
Forged and clayed 9 3/4" W2 blade and stainless take-down fittings complete the 14 3/4" package!

Your blades and there composition are nothing but awesome, Karl.

They are as clean and stylish as any I see anywhere.

It was good to talk with you at Cambridge.

That is a fantastic looking knife. I like everything about that knife. Could I by chance talk you into giving us a close up of where the stag meets the gaurd?
Thanks.

Nice looking knife there Karl. Did you pick up that Stag at the Ohio show? Thanks for the talk at the show. I talked briefly with my buddy the other day and he said that he does have a lot of Hickory up at his shop. I will be in touch with you about it.

Karl, that is a nice looking knife and a nice looking hamon. I too would like a close up of where the stag hits the butt cap. Looks like a lot of work to get it all to match. It was good to see you and your knives at the show.

Great knife. Really love a good cut of stag and the blade is over the top.

Very classy and smooth package. That's beautiful stag and a great hamon.

Did you design the blade from the stag or make the blade and find the stag for the handle? Just curious about your design process.

I had the blade completed prior to the Ohio Custom Knife Show but was unable to get a completed knife before "Show Time"!
While at the show, I was able to snag a couple pieces of stag and saw that one would fit the blade nicely.
My "design process" was purely opportunistic.
I'm sure some guys would say that they spent all this time and figuring, etc., etc. so that their proportions were just right, and balance and yada, yada.....
Unless specifically ordered, I usually forge a knife and then look around in handle material boxes for something that "fits" and then procede!
Makes life fun!
