Hey guys, got another w2 hamon bowie knife for you to check out. This is my second bowie knife I've made so far. It doesn't have a clip but I don't know what else to call it so i'm going with bowie knife I guess.
I posted it in the bowie knife of the year thread so you may have alrdy seen it.
I know this hamon ain't everyone's cup of tea seeing as its not a subtle bright polish like on Japanese swords. But its my style that i've come to like a lot so far and with this etch/polish process I can get the ashi lines to come out nice and long following the clay exactly at some parts.
Cutting edge is 10.5. The spine and choil are very slightly rounded for a sleek smooth look.
guard and spacer are blackened nickel silver with blacklip pearl spacers( which I thought would show some cool colors on the sides but nope...they are just black)
Wood is maple burl dyed a dark purple. I know lots of guys here don't like dyed woods but man I think they are the coolest thing.
Pictures are not enhanced at all, the hamon is very dramatic.

Tell me what you guys think. I'd love to hear your thoughts good or bad.
My critique on this knife is that the handle needs to be a quarter inch longer and I would make the guard lugs thicker. I feel I thinned them out too much even though when I drew them they were thicker.
Thanks for lookin boys

Man that is sweet! I personally love the hamon, can't say I've ever seen one quite like it.

That purple maple is beautiful as well, it reminds me of a piece of candy and almost makes my mouth begin to water as if I'm thinking of a grape jolly rancher or something lol. It is surely some eye candy though.

Would you mind if I asked how you blackened the nickel silver fittings? I've never seen anything but hot blueing get anything that black\ (let alone never seen NS in black before), at least that's how black it looks from the pictures. It really looks great and I would love to try that out, especially since hot blueing is more than my shop and I can handle, and cold bluing just give a funky smell which I have noticed also makes my hand smell when I touch anything I've used it on.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much man!!! its funny that you brought up a grape jolly rancher because I thought it reminded me of grape flavored candy as well haha.

I actually used brownells oxpho blue. Just a few coats of it and it got super dark. I probably won't do it on nickel silver again and instead just use mild steel. But it definitely is really black and I think looks cool.

haha that is funny

And thanks for the info! I'm gonna half to pick up some oxpho blue as I always hear it works great. Yea, if it works just as well on mild steel it's definitely a less expensive material to work with.

I've just been using Birchwood Casey permablue all these years which comes in sort of a paste, so that may be why it seems to be hard to wash/scrub off without messing up the bluing, thus leaving a bad smell behind.

Thanks again and take care.
