Hi Folks- :)

JoeP style fighter forged from W2, clay hardened, and polished.
416 ss guard and domed pin
BigRick provided me with some fantastic carbon fibre HE MADE in his shop--- awesome!

I want to thank Stuart Branson--- I had been doing "no-clay differential hardening" for long enough I was having some issues when I went back to using clay. Stuart was kind enough to hash things out over the phone and made me realize something I'd overlooked... and that was what made things click again. :)

BTW- I've noticed guys posting things about discussion no longer taking place here, or being allowed, or whatever... So feel free to discuss away if you wish. I already know there are plenty of guys that don't like the combination of "old school" and "new school" but there are others who don't like "east meets west." So I'm sure many guys won't like this piece. Feel free to cuss and discuss. ;) :)

Thanks for looking! :)

Let me be the first to say

WHAT A BAD ASS KNIFE

I love it buddy

Congrats to the new owner

Ahh Nicky,

That's a bad boy! And it seems your touch with the clay is just fine.( Stuart's an asset though, isn't he.)

John

Thanks guys!!!

I need to thank Joe here too, since this has been a crazy popular knife for me. :D (just wait till you see the sketch for the 10" bladed big brother ;) :p).

John- Stuart seems to have more talent in his pinky than most guys could ever hope to find in their entire body... kind'a like that Quesenberry guy!

At first Stuart was like, "Um, I used to ask you questions about this..." Amazing how quick he turned that around! Luckily I keep notes on stuff like heat-treating--- it turned out we were doing everything almost exactly the same, but I had forgotten the kiln wasn't producing the results I had wanted... Stuart gave me a kick and reminded me! :)

Thanks guys :)

I wanna get kicked too so I can make a hamon like that:D. So sweet and sooo lethal at the same time, gotta love it.

Works for me and I'd have one in a second!!!! Fantastic fighter and, like I said, would love to own it or one just like it.....

I had this one in my hand, so i can tell you all that, as expected, the hamon is even better in person...and so is the chatoyance of this piece of CF :D

Interestingly, though, the pattern of the CF is such that from most angles it really does not compete with the hamon, so that I think the whole thing works very nicely !

The balance of the knife is great, and as people noted in the original JoeP thread, the knife is much lighter than you would guess

Bill

Well Nick you certainly got your hamon sorted. If this is a fighter, I can't imagine either person doing much fightin'. You'd pull the knife, and everyone would get lost in all that chatoyance and the hamon :p

Beautiful work and impeccable fit and finish.. Damn that blade is CLEAN!

I have a comment.

There is one thing I really don't like about that knife.

It's not mine. :D

I really like these knives. Congrats on another terrific job.

Yet another masterpiece. I look at your builds and see all my flaws. I must say your work is impeccable and that I enjoyed meeting you in San Antonio

Beautiful fighter Nick! I played around with one of these at Jon's place and it was just bad to the bone...KILLER design and execution all around!

whaouuuuuu!!!a pure beauty!!i'm have always the same things when i seen one of yours knives: I WANT ONE :D

Just Beautiful in a wicked way. I don't think your style of fighter will ever go out of style. Congrats she's a winner.

You know I'm a big fan of the design. As to materials, I think it's a cool look and a nice change of pace from the traditional wood / stag / ivory handles that usually accompany fine forged knives. I couldn't see myself having a bunch of CF-handled knives in my collection, but I would happily add a piece like this. Variety is good.

i was beginning to wonder where you were. I love seeing the knives you are making Nick! Please post more.... This is an absolute beauty!!!

Old meets new has its places man and I think this knife goes well with it. Great looking knife man! I cant wait to get the forge roaring this summer :)
