I just received a quote from All Metals and Forge for a piece of W2 1-1/2" diameter by 10' long. They want $305 for it, which works out to about $5 per pound. Is that good, or should I keep looking? Where do you guys get yours? I remember running across an old thread here that talked about a guy in Ohio selling drops of W2. Is he still in business?

Yes, i saw that, but 5/8" is too small. I want something I can forge BIG knives from. :D

Because I'm not good at forge welding :D, and both bars would have to be flattened and ground clean. It'd be more hassle than it's worth. (For me anyway)

It's a bit pricey. But how many pounds of steel go into a $1,000 knife?:) IOW, if you really "need" W2, and you are selling your knives, the price is not a huge obstacle.

I can get by without the w2 for now, but I'd like to try it someday. I thought I'd saved the contact info for that guy who was selling the scrap, but I can't find it, and I can't find it on BF either. :(
I'm also getting a quote from the same company for 1084 and 1095. This is the first place I've found that sells 1095 in round stock.

Jim Batson has some W2 for sale right now, his prices seemed pretty decent when I talked to him on saturday. I know he has some 1" round, which will forge out to a pretty darn wide blade.

This is the only source I know of and I have been looking for quite a while. They only have large stock so a power hammer or press is recommended, unless you just feel like a work out.
