This was in pretty rough shape when I got it and the factory leather just wouldn't do :)

As it arrived

And now with new pants

Very nice looking sheath. I've got a W-36 I'd like to clean up. What steps did you take to get yours looking so good?

Thanks everyone!
NCB, this one was pretty rough so I started with (gasp!) 220 grit.
That'll get your attention and show your commitment lol.
Then progressed up thru the grits, wet sanding with WD40 all the way up to 1500.
I had the sandpaper backed up with a mousepad that was mounted on a block of wood.
After that I gave it a good going over with Mother's Mag Polish.

All sanding strokes in one direction with much care.

Guard, handle and pommel got a buff with the dremel and white compound.

I've really grown to like this style sheath.
Even if it is a lot more to sew...
It fits into my modular carry system as well...

Looking at mine again, I can see where I would have to drop back to 220 to get out some of the deep scratches. I was hoping you had some secret to getting that great finish without the hard work :) Maybe the aged look is not so bad after all.

Thanks for the info!

After a while it gets to be a zen thing.
But yes it is some hard careful work.
Really satisfying when it is done though.

Makes one appreciate every handmade that they own :)

I agree, my only hesitation is when I look at my workbench, I see plenty of opportunity for achieving zen.

I made a new sheath for the W-36 and although the knife is not in that bad of shape, looking at your fantastic sheath and refurbish got my wheels spinning.

The sheath is great and that knife doesn't look bad at all.

I won't complain about the W46's original shape since it helped with the price :)

The sharpening 'oops' scratches were significant.
We're doing much better now.
