Does anyone know of another distributor of sticks similar to the WA-1 or Grey Ghost sticks? I am hesitant to buy from Newt Livesay, both because of other people's complaints, and the fact it took almost 4 months to get my last WA-1.

I thought I read somewhere that these sticks are used as livestock sorters, but I can't remember where. In any event, anybody ever see them other than from Newt? Thanks for your time.

your concerns are justified my friend :-) and 4 months is lighting quick when dealing with newt. stay far away. might not be what your looking for BUT "Blair Walking Stick" or a Cold Steel "sjambok". The blair is a little stiffer than newts and the Cold steel has a little more give. Best of luck sir.

The sjambok is more the equivalent of the WA-1, but it won't support weight, as the WA-1 will. The Gray Ghost is pretty heavy duty. You could substitute a Cold Steel white wax wood staff which I think comes in 4' or 6', and in a 3' crook top cane.

I got a Gray Ghost 41" walking stick and a 36" WA-1 from Newt recently. It took about a month, but he was good about email telling me when the next batch would be ready to ship and when it went out. Considering the quality of the sticks and the negligible price, I am very pleased with the deal.

I bought a long livestock stick at a flea market in KY for $5. It is the exact same material as Newt uses and is a little over 5' long. It has a greater diameter than the WA-1, but I believe is smaller than the Gray Ghost. I don't have a Gray Ghost to compare it to. The biggest shortcoming is that the "handle" is merely dipped vinyl like the tips on the WA-1's. Therefore it is slippery and a little narrow. I have been looking for a good replacement but haven't found one yet. It isn't really a great walking stick but for $5 I couldn't pass it up.

Interesting ,1 month Hmmm, I waited almost a yr. and NO luck on my Grey Ghost??? I was also kept promptly informed of when the next batch would be available I do admit (But that happened 3-4 times and no stick :-) ....guess it's just the luck of the draw :-) IF! you can get one, i have no doubt they ARE worth the price. Newts quality is still up there!!! regardless of surrounding circumstances:-)

Get some tape for wrapping tennis racket handles and run that around diagonally a few times. Newt uses a rubbery simulation of golf club handles.

I didn't mean to ignore your story. I had read about it before I ordered mine, knowing I was taking a chance. Frankly, if it wasn't so little money, I wouldn't have taken the chance. Unfortunately, there are too many instances of unhappy customers.

Esav that is a good idea. I have some non slip tennis racket handle wrap but the diameter is still too small to grip securely. I like how the handles on Newts sticks flare out. Maybe I'll try to build the handle up with tape and then put the non slip wrap over it.

Paul, I'm used to walking with everything from crooktops to plain sticks. With a stick, I usually put the heel of my hand on top. With Newt's stick, that's a narrow, hard jab in the hand. I imagine yours is the same. You might try some kind of hard foam wrap or carpet padding under the grip tape. You can pad the top a bit, then. Don't forget to overlap the tape at least half the width as you spiral it on.

Great Idea sir....its called "tournagrip" and can be found at any footlocker, sports authority etc. and thank you for the kind words :-)

Got one from a livestock store last summer. They had a variety of lengths and diameters with the golf club grip. Looks like the same stick as what's his names'.

Stouter than the whips. Stay away from the hotshot brand, the grip wants to slide on the stick.
