Once in a while, I purchase a product made by a company called "Equate".
They make bath and medicines for Wal-Mart, and I believe other large companies to sell. Their items are usually made to compete with, and stocked on the shelves next, their direct competitor.

I'am trying to find info on this company. Are their products "exactly" the same as the brand they are competing against ?

Equate is a "store brand" that Walmart sells. It might or might not be made by the same manufacturer that makes a recognized brand name, but it is almost certainly the same manufacturer that makes other stores' "store brands".

The other brand you'll see at WalMart is "Great Value" in the food products. I used to buy the GV chewy granola bars, and once I got the box open, I found that they were the same as the store brand sold by Shop & Save in Massachusetts. Same wrapper, everything.

My old lady buys Equate stuff at Walmart as well.

Never noticed any problems with the products.

I don't think I've used a name brand OTC medication in several years.

You can do a comparison with the name brand conterpart; the active ingredients are the same. but the inert ingredients may differ slightly, or the ingredients are listed in a different order.

I would suppose they're chemically the same- with subtle differences so-as not to infringe on any patents. I know when my mother worked for Ralston Purina's cereal division her plant made generic "store-brand" stuff. We always bought store brand because it was cheaper, and while you could tell who'd made the cereal, it was all basically the same stuff you'd get in the name brand box. I wouldn't be surprised if these products were done in "runs" at one of several different plants, some of whom make the name-brand stuff. I mean, there can only be so many drug manufacturing plants.

Sincerely,
Anthony

I always buy store brand OTC medicines and usually try out the supermarket brand food items too. I know a guy who worked in a food processing plant where they packaged potato products and he said the only difference from the big name brand and the store brands was the label stock they loaded into the machines.

Thanks for clearing that up guys, sometimes we buy the equate stuff, sometimes not. Wehave in the past bought generic stuff depending on the prices.
Wall world is ok, just don't care for how they lower their workers health insurance.

later,

Walmarts Sams Choice store brand sells a type of flavored water. I've got one I just bought at 711 on break, from a company called Classic Selection. Same type of graphics on the label, same flavor etc. They are 50 cents each at WM, 99 cents each at Royal Farms Store, and 1.59 at 711.

I always buy the store brand because it is cheaper and tastes exactly the same.
