Help find a waffle iron! Fast, I gotta have waffles! :D

Saw two different waffle makers at a discount department store tonight - both had the GE brand but were junk. (Is that what GE sells nowadays?!?)

Anyone bought a waffle iron lately that you feel is solidly built and works well? Nothing exotic or super-expensive, but I don't mind spending more to get more.

Thanks!

p.s. I'm not knocking cheap-o appliances or Wal Mart, but those GE irons were ~really~ lame. On the other hand, our $5 no-name toaster from WalMart is still kicking butt and making toast after ten year. I'd like to get a nicer one, but how to justify it when there's nothing wrong with this one?

Yes. The consumer appliances division of GE now makes nothing and they sell junk... junk that they buy from cheap manufacturers in China. That is what Thomas Edison's company has come to ... at least in consumer appliances. GE still does a lot of really excellent work in a lot of really sophisticated fields; when you fly, for example, it's very likely that the plane's jet engines are made by GE, the same company that put its name on those waffle irons you saw.

A waffle iron is a heating appliance. As such, it has the serious potential to burn your house down. So, don't skimp. Insist on a good one. And whatever you get, insist on seeing the UL logo on it.

My wife loves the Cuisinart WAF-300C that I, errr Santa gave her for Christmas. And I love the waffles she makes with it! :)

Those cast iron waffle makers look cool, but in order to maximize my waffle intake the waffle iron needs to be as fast and as automatic as possible. You see, I don't cook much; Wife makes the waffles. :D

That's the sort of iron I'm looking for. Thanks.

Yeah, most jet engines used in America right now are made by GE.
I dunno what we use, but it's from the late 70s so I'm not gonna recommend anything.

Consumer kitchen electrics are pretty poor quality in general unless you pay a premium. After buying three cheap crock pots that wouldn't cook beans on their lukewarm "high" setting I gave up bought a $60 crock pot and haven't looked back. I could have purchased the good model for what I paid for the three bad ones.

Cuisinart has some pretty cheap models and some really good ones. Be sure to look them over first. Buy the good ones and avoid the cheap ones with the "good" price. Kitchenaid's pro-sumer line of small electrics is pretty darn good though they are pricey. Buy once, cry once, and enjoy good performance and quality. ;)

Cuisinart sells pretty good consumer electronics, I'd look into their middle price range waffle irons (not the cheapest model) for decent & reliable products.

If you want something heavy duty, look at Waring brand of waffle irons.

Just had to say thank you to the OP. Last year I planned on getting an iron but never did, since you reminded me I picked up a warning 400 and a few cans of the carbon golden waffle flour. MMM gonna have it all by Wednesday next week. Going to have some good eats next weekend. If I have to choose I would do the warning again. Great reviews, my old one lasted 10 years until the hinge just cracked on it. But its life, at the price I paid per year it comes out to $5-6 a year to own, with the waffles I made.... many times that.

Its odd how someone post will remind you that you are missing something.

Thanks again.

We have an old Vitantonio waffle make that is by far the best we have owned

Also own a 4 waffle all-clad, it is very expensive and harder to use due to size.
