Wagner Power Painters?

Me and my Mom are going to paint the inside of the house so I got one of Wagner's power painters, model 660 that has a hopper you put the paint in. I used to paint cars, but I thought it wise to ask if anyone has any experience with this Wagner? Anything in particular I need to be aware of or look out for?
Thanks up front for any help you can give me!!!

Make sure you thin the paint down to almost water viscosity.

In my experience, that viscosity cup is a joke; too thick to spray. You'll have to experiment to get it correct.

I painted the exterior of my house with an older model, and while it worked ok, it wouldn't feed through the tube you put in the can very well, and the tip had to be cleaned frequently.

My brother used the same unit to do the interior of his house after he put up new sheetrock, and it made a huge mess. He ended up using the traditional brush and roller to fix the mess.

I wouldn't recommend using it for interior painting, but YMMV.

Good luck.

I had horrible luck with the last one I used, and it was supposed to be the best one they offer. I decided that the next time I need to paint, I'll buy a small commercial unit-the ones that you load 5 gallon buckets into-and be happy. The last ones I looked at were under $400.

Yikes!!!
Maybe I should just take this thing back to Home Depot.
Thanks guys!!!!

Get one of those Paint Sticks that sucks up paint into the handle. They work great and cost about $25.

I haven't used a Wagner but I rented a sprayer once to paint the outside of my house. I was very surprised by how much overspray there was. To use one inside a furnished house would require some very careful prep work to make sure you didn't get overspray on anything.

i once had a wagner power roller. it worked quite well but was a pain to clean. i used it for about 7-8 years until it finally wore out. my wife likes to change wall colors so i estimate it painted 20-25 rooms during that time

Is the trim up? Masking off the openings versus using a handheld edge guide and a brush/roller is a no brainer to me. I don't want more work and expense. YMMV.

I tried one years ago and couldn't get it to spray - viscosity issue I think. It was noisy, left my hand tingling, and I had to work the power cord like an old weedeater. Plus you can refrigerate a wet roller or brush - the Wagner has to be cleaned no matter what. I don't paint much so I stick to high quality brushes - or at least my wife does. :D

I used a Wagner spray painter for my house interior. However it was unfurnished and I was going to replace the carpeting. I wouldn't want to use it indoors with furnishings...you can actually get a mist in the air. If you used to spray cars you are probably better than me, but it was pretty easy to F-Up the job. For example if you didn't have you windows perfectly sealed with plastic etc. etc. Also, yes that damned little spray head, if it gets mucked up it won't spray for crap.

I'd follow Comet's advice and get the Roller that sucks the paint up into the handle. It works very well, even for ceilings, is much faster than the traditional roller and pan, and clean up is pretty easy. Home Depot sells those as well.

We're gettin a bed room ready today and gonna paint tomorrow. We're just takin it easy and doin a room a week. I'll let you guys know how the thing works for me. :D

Rent a professional srayer from a tool rental company.

I agree with this. I've bought and junked a couple of the Wagners over the years. I don't care what they claim, these things do clog up and are a pain to clean. The last one I had did save lots of time in doing closets though. It was over before it started. :D

Like the man said above, rent a pro model from a rental place and be happy when you take it back!

Well, I've painted two rooms so far and they've come out fine! The Wagner works great for me! I can see where someone would have problems with it though. If you don't have the directions in front of you and follow them step by step it wouldn't go so smooth. Plus you have to get the unit outside and clean it realy good asap. I'm shootin water base paint so it's no big deal.
