WAHHH! Lost my new BM 710HS today...

I'm crying in my beer tonight. Had to replace a headlight bulb today, and used my new Benchmade 710HS to cut the tape off of the package. After replacing the headlight, went out to run a couple of errands. On my way home, reached in my pocket to open the seal on a package, and my knife was gone. I've only had it for less than a week.

To put it bluntly, I am bummed. My best guess is that I set the knife on the top of the engine cover after using it to open the headlight package, and it blended right in with the black engine cover. I probably just closed the hood with it still there, and drove off. I am sure it fell out of the engine compartment somewhere along the way. And yes, I did retrace my entire route twice, but still no sign.

The thought of my new knife rusting by the roadside bothers me a great deal. I am truly in mourning....

That sucks. But you have company,I lost my Spyderco Rescue last Wed. night at a house fire. But your loss is much greater 'cause I only paid $25 for mine on a close out,and had it for a couple years.

Well it'll hurt but go out and replace it,you'll feel better:D

This just validates my latest thinking on new acquisitions, which goes sorta like this:

If you find something you really like, get another one (or two) right away.

You will eventually lose it, break it, or wear it out; and when you do a replacement may not be available anymore (at a reasonable price, anyway). "Better to have and not need, than need and not have...."

I'll be ordering two replacements next week. But I'll still miss the one I lost today.

We share in your loss Greg...

I too lost a knife, my dear sewwt benchmade Sentinel. :( I miss you dearly...

I've lost a Kershaw Avelanche at a party, a MT Socom was stolen from me, and my far left gun/knife grabbing aunt had my CRKT M16-04 and Fury boot knife destroyed. It sucks to lose a knife... but think of it on the good side (if any), you can always replace it with something better.

I lost a BM 705 at a party about 8 months ago so I know how you feel. I still haven't gotten a replacement blade for that one. I think that it is about time I do :D .

Why'd you let her destroy your knives? And how'd she get her liberal paws on them in the first place?

One time, I came really close to losing a small sebenza. I had it at my girlfriend's brothers apartment and it fell into his couch. Luckily, when I got up, I felt my back pocket and found it missing. I tore apart the couch frantically till I found it. Talk about a tense few minutes. Sorry about the loss.

Jazzman, I bet that was a scary few minutes. It's kind of funny but the other day I had my small classic Sebenza out cutting open a package (that contained new knives :D ) and I started looking for it and it was in my hand the whole time :o .

Lost a BM to a couch once (I think my Gf's brother stole it), and two delicas in 5 years in the knife thang. I will never lose another one again I vowed. Each were sad losses.

You've probably already thought of this but check under your hood again REAL good. There all all kinds of nooks and crannies that it could have vibrated into and got lodged. I've found several tools that way. Use the best light you can get and look from every angle. I'd be sick if I lost my 710.

I lost my EDC, a CRKT M-16 just over a month ago.... I hate losing things, and it's the first decent knife i've lost. Nothing to replace it with at the moment, but i'm saving my change.

It stung to lose, but the fact that i lost it in the middle of a feild, in the middle of the night, with a beautiful girl certainly helped ease my pain.

I was 17 and my mom had a "no knives" rule. My aunt had a key to the house and caught me knifesturbating. She said they were illegal and took them to the machinist that does her mower maintenance. She had him melt slag all over both of them "so my prints wouldn't be found" (her words). After my Strider incident at college, my family has accepted my addiction to steel. She's an over-zealous Christian lesbian... explain that.

I have the fortunate luck not to have lost a knife in ten years. The last one I lost was a higher quality Frost Coon Skinner slipjoint with a scrimshawed smoothbone handle. That did hurt at the time, but since then I have discovered real quality, and haven't lost one since. Good luck in the future.

A bummer. But it could have been worse. Look on the bright side. A loose knife floating around under your hood could have gotten tangled in the fan or the belts--maybe driving a hole through the radiator, etc.

I'm sure the replacements will comfort you.:)

A moment of silence for Greg's Benchmade. We empathize with you Greg, as only true fellow knife nuts can.
