What kind of belt do you guys wear? I'm trying to find a good belt to wear hiking/camping and that sort of thing. I have a stiff leather belt but they're uncomfortable to hike with over long distances because they dig into your side. I also have a cloth belt but it ends up getting soaked with sweat, which is fine but since it's cotton it never dries which can be annoying.

Am I just complaining a lot  or are there better alternatives out there?

Seem to remember a nylon camp belt with double ring buckle(thread through and back). Inexpensive and durable but only good for holding up your pants..would not work for additional loading bearing - no handguns et al.

Check out the Wilderness Instructor belt. I can't copy/paste links from my phome without a major pain, but you should be able to find them via google easily enough.

The Wilderness Instructor Belt is nice for every day wear and the range, but not so great for hiking if your backpacking. The pack waist belt compresses the huge buckle into your gut.

Check out the Spec-Ops better BDU belt http://www.specopsbrand.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=53. It is nylon so it won't readily absorb water like your leather belt. Then again, re-reading your post, if you think a leather belt is stiff, you won't like the better BDU belt either.

The Liger belt from Maxpedition is nice. It has a very low profile and is a highly flexible synthetic. Mine wears like iron and feels like butter (don't even know its there).

Good luck!

My current leather belt does this and my belly hair gets tangled up in it :D . Hurts like the dickens!

Thanks for the advice, I may go with a nylon belt based on what I'm seeing here. I won't be carrying a handgun for the near future (I live in the good old People's Republic of Massachusetts) but I will be carrying a 6/12oz knife.

I have a huge collection available on my site, about 175 belts or so to choose from. brands like: 5.11 Tactical, BLACKHAWK, Maxpedition and many more. http://tinyurl.com/waistbelt
If I can help out let me know.

I like my leather belt. I bough it on a trip in Wyoming. It is USA top grain cow hide. The only time I would not use is in an extremely wet environment where i was possitive that I would be getting soaked -like a jungle stream/ pool jumping hike. I use it for everything else. Plus the leather makes a good back-up strop.

Man, the buckles on some of those belts would kill you on a long hike under a hip belt if you have any kind of gut!

I bought a backpackers belt from Jake at aresgear.com, here:

http://www.aresgear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1

He uses 1.5" webbing and then backs it with a scuba webbing for a little extra stiffness, will carry your fixed blade with no problem. I've worn it on many backpacks and it is very comfortable. Reasonably priced, too.

I use suspenders and wear a stiff wide leather belt often carrying a fixed blade. With suspenders I can carry more stuff and leave the belt on the loose side, which elliminates the problems of the belt digging and pulling into my gut.

I use to wear leather but the sweat was eating it up.
Switched to a nylon belt made for me by a Harness maker in VT.
Double layer nylon with a SS buckle.
Holes in belt made with a soldering iron.
Not pretty but super functional.

For normal wear, I use the kydex inner belt for my cop duty set. This has the 'female' velcro on the outside so it looks like suede. For duty, just wrap the other belt around it and it sticks like, well, like glue and carries duty gun, mag holders with mags, cuffs, light, mace, asp, radio, etc. Neat belts. Brownells and others have them for about fifty bucks. When you have stuff on the outer belt it's easy to change position without having to unthread and rethread a belt through your pant's loops. Just peel the velcro away, change position of the equipment, restick, and that's it.

I like the Spec-Ops Better BDU belt myself, got the tan and the blue (for a jeans belt).
The AresGear belts might be OK, but they aren't selling me without pictures.

MEC nylon belts, they have leather stitched at the d rings for strength and really flat, does not dig with a hipbelt. Come with cool patterns on one side, reversable to plain.
I have had 2 for at least 12yrs going strong

OT: I live in MA. and DO have a CCW permit. It isn't a PITA to get here.

Me too, but as far as License to Carry is concerned Massachusetts is not a People's Republic; it's a feudal society with different laws for every town created by the whim of the local Baron Police Chief. More in Knife Laws; this isn't the forum for it.

I like these, they are like $5 at my local surplus store and last forever. The only thing that sucks is that the belt itself wears out after like 4 or 5 months. But I prefer it to leather ones cause it's faster to use and you don't have to use the holes.

That's the one I have, they also have ones with gold and black buckles and like OD belts.

I like the military nylon dress belt. They look just like the cotton jobs but have more strength and wear resistance. They are hard to find but are worth the effort. They come in black, tan, white, AF blue, and olive drab. The maximum length is around 42 or 44 inches, and they can be cut to length. Buckles come in brass or brass or nickel plated steel. The nylon belts are slightly thinner than the cotton belts so check to make sure that the buckle roller will grasp the belt. The buckles come with different throat widths.
