Hi All, My preferred mehod of wearing a folder is clipped on the inside of my pants almost directly behind my belt buckle. I have yet to find a folder that this is really comfortable to do this with. Right now my EDC is a Commander. Does anybody do this with a knife of similar quality that might be a little more comfortable. (I hate the pointy handle on my Commander) Reguards, Justin

Hi, I used to carry a Spyderco Police with stainless steel handles inside my waistband over the right hip. Try some of the smaller Spyderco knifes, maybe the native.

My current EDC is a Spyderco Police. I placed it behind my waist band and it carries nicely. The clip on the Police makes for a high carry and pokes you in the gut while sitting. suggest a knife with the same width but complimented with a discreet carry clip.

I don't that any knife would be comfortable there...maybe a Chive? (though a SpeedSafe probably isn't the best choice in that location). May I ask what about that location appeals to you if the knife is uncomfortable there? Easier draw?

I would think that the SERE 2K would do well with waistband carry although it may be hard to retrieve. I have carried my Sebenza IWB and it also carries very well.

Zen Ghost- Inside the waist offers 2 thing to me. I like the fact that while I may have other weapons showing, inside the waist is almost totally concealed, if I'm disarmed... last resort. Also when I have to run, jump, or crawl my knife is more secure than if it were clipped in my pocket. I once lost a Spydie clipped in my pocket at work and still haven't recovered.:)

I think maybe Zenghost was asking was why in the front. I carry IWB all the time, but on the right hip. I can carry a BM AFCK without any trouble. You are right, IWB it is a great method of concealment.

That's actually what I was going for. I have carried IWB on the right hip or in SOB, but right behind the belt buckle is rather painful when you have to sit down. Carrying IWB is nice to free up pockets and does make concealment a little easier (especially if you wear your shirt untucked) so I understand that part. It really is a matter of personal preference so I'm not knocking your method of carry--just trying to get a better feel for what you are looking for.

Perhaps not right behind the belt buckle, but Bob Kasper has long advocated what he calls appendix carry, even for IWB fixed blade knives. At an angle, the knife fits into the crease at the top of your thigh when you bend or sit down. It works well for some people. Give it a try.

I carry IWB/front right all the time. 2-3" knives dissapear with appendix carry. I CAN do a 5" IWB/appendix though it needs adjusting to sit down.

I have done a week of carrying my spydie military, and had full range of motion.

clip it so that it angles along the thigh when you sit, and clip it angled underneath the belt loop(under the belt)... won't notice it(I often have to feel inside as a pat does nothing to check), and the draw is quickly done by just pressing out as you pull up.

I don't think I would try this with my SERE 2K. I'd be worried about the thumbstud pulling the blade open without me realizing it.

I have carried my AFCK and Spydie Police just to the right of my belt buckle. Both knives have slightly curved handles (for comfort when I set down) and holes instead of thumbstuds. Like others have said, its comfortable, out of the way, and well concealed.

I don't think it would be hard to retrieve at all if you added a lanyard to it. That's how I carry mine in my pocket all the time. Just yank on the lanyard and out comes the knife.

If it comes open without you realizing it, just don't open it!:D

Seriously, just consider it a "wave" and go with it.

I carried the Spyderco Lil' Temperance pass-around knife IWB for most of the week I had it, it was very comfortable. I'd recommend checking it out, it's a very well designed knife. One thing I would reccomend is to try getting it from a retail outlet, the pass-around knife had some play in the lock. If I ever get one of these I want to examine it first.

I carried my CUDA Maxx 5.5 IWB right front quite comfortably for quite some time until I noticed the clip eating holes in my pants. Ya just gotta angle it the right way! Tonight, I was wearing a suit and clipped it IWB just off my right hip, worked pretty well.
Perhaps the most amazing example of IWB carry was seeing Mike Sastre (of southern comfort bowie sheath fame) whip out a huge Bagwell bowie that he was carrying off his right hip in a pair of baggy shorts and an untucked t-shirt. Then again, he's kinda skinny and I'm kinda beefy, so I would have to try out that combo before I could believe it could be done for me. You could absolutely not tell he was wearing a big ol' bowie on him though... simply amazing!

Why not get a belt buckle knife, there is a new one that is easy to release, and is not bad looking. The knife comes in many different engraved styles. I just cant remember the web site i saw it on, but do a google on belt buckle knives and you will find it.

I sometimes carry my monster Cold Steel Vaquero Grande, IWB, clipped on my left side, just in-front of my wallet. That is pretty comfortable and secure, even with that huge folder.
