Hello all,

I have been looking at buying a TNT to replace my Sebenza for EDC and I would like to know how long it would take to get a fully customized version. Anyone who has a custom TNT, please tell me how long it took you to get yours. Thanx guys.

Why not just email Tom Mayo and ask?

He's here on this forum most days and I'm sure he'll be around to give you an estimate.

(As an aside, any prices and or other specific order related information should be taken offline to email.)

I did e-mail him but it was very early this mourning and I was just wanted some personal waiting times.

Turbo,

I believe that Tom is in Eugene this weekend so you probably won't hear from him until early next week. He is a great guy and he works hard to try to keep his timelines accurate. BTW, which blade shape are you going for?

I wanted a blade shape like the one on my Calypso Jr, flat blade, angled spine, triangular in shape, and flat grind. This would be very easy to sharpen, and drops the tip down so I can cut cardboard, fabric, or paper flat on a table. I would like the blade to be 3 1/4 inch long, made of Talonite, or Stellite. I love the holes in Tom's knives, so I would need plenty of those. I don't know if Tom can do all of these things for me, but I know he will do his best.

TNT is the knife that replaced my Sebenza as an EDC. I believe that mine took about 8 months. His website advertises 16-18 month wait. If you are going to one of the shows he attends he might make it a priority to have yours done for the show. I ordered one in Vegas in early February and he said he would have it for me to pick up at Blade Show West in late September. That makes about seven months. But stuff happens and I won't be real bummed if it isn't ready. Tom has a full time job sharpening woodworking blades and I think he attends 5 shows a year. So between his job and making knives for shows, it leaves little time to get at the backlog. Best would be to get the answer from him. Patience is the key. It may take a while, but it is well worth the wait.

Are we gonna try to hook up at BW? I'll be wearing my new show hat...the 'Blue Fedora'...lol ;)

To answer T-man's question..."Email Tom". Pretty basic 'stuff' eh?

I kinda doubt that he'd make a funky 'custom' for you, what with buyer's bailing out on maker's these days...but he does seem to do 'trade-up's' with long term buyer's, and always seems to come home with a few knives each time.

I'd suggest that you buy something he 'has', and see if it fits you.

Reasonable prices, nice knives, shorter wait, and a way of 'making sure'...

Mel

p.s. I'm shooting from the hip here Turbo, speaking only from assumptions, and may be 180' off course...

Thanx guys. If I buy a TNT it will be one that has been built already from another website. I have also been looking at Darrel Ralph's EDC which is a bit cheaper.
