I just read in another thread that a guy was using water on his polishing tapes. Is this how it's suppose to be done?

If so, then I've been doing it wrong for a long time.

Well before anyone replied I tried it. I'll be damned if my edges didn't turn out better than using the tapes dry.

Normally I would have cloudy spots in the edge using the 3000 grit tapes, but after going over them with water on the tapes it took the cloudy spots right out.

How come I hadn't heard of this before?

I know it was mentioned on the youtube videos on edge pro's website that you could dampen them lightly if you cared to. I just recently got an edge pro and haven't tried the tapes yet. I was thrilled to put a decent edge on my SnG and didn't want to mess it up lol

The polish tapes just take your edge to the next level. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

It's in the DVD. ;)

I just rewatched the video and Ben says normally he uses them dry, and I guess I toned out after hearing that because I had to replay it to hear him say, "But sometimes I do use a little bit of water".

I never knew to use water, but I'm glad I know now. It's the stuff you learn after you think you know it all that is most important.

I actually tried using the tapes dry, with just a drop, and with lots of water. Using plenty of water does make something of a difference for me, but I found that keeping the tapes clean with metal polish(Ankerson's tip) makes more of a difference and prolongs the life of the tape. Sometimes, using a lot of water will ruin the adhesive on the tape.

A few drops of Soapy water will wick off the metal that usually sticks onto the tape, rendering it useless in just a few strokes

The downside is it may seep around if you use too much water and remove the tape

I've experimented with both methods on a variety of steels. While both work well, I prefer a few drops of water on the tapes, especially with the higher end steels.

On the water bottle I received in my Edge Pro kit it says to use only a little water on the tapes.
