I ordered a blue plain edged Salsa from Mike at the New Graham Pharmacy on 6/27/02, and am now happily awaiting delivery to my P.O. Box. Ah, expectation!

Fuller, I know what you mean about expectation.:(

I'm waiting for my Vesuvius 50/50 w/shell inlay from Glasshartt. Hopefully, it'll be in this week.

Like they say, "good things come to those who wait".
But those who waited weren't waiting for Spydies. ;)

Oh, I don't know. As a kid, I used to enjoy looking at the incoming Christmas presents, except for the damned jokers who would send me a birthday present (my birthday was 12/03/42) and mark it "Do Not Open Until Christmas". My Mother, being a literal sort, would not let me open the damned thing until Christmas!

My birthday is 12/22!!! I don't know how many times I heard "well, instead of a birthday AND a Christmas present, we just got you ONE big present". :(

I hated that.

Oh well, I'm glad that I'm all grown up and can get my own birthday and Christmas presents. From me, to me.:D ;) :D

I had a best friend, now dead, unfortunately, whose birthday was 12/24/45! Can you imagine that? He must have always felt left in the dust. I understand the theological implications and all that, but try to explain it to a kid!

I picked it up from my P.O. Box on Friday, 7/5/02 and it is a lovely little knife. The blade on mine measures 2 7/16", perfect for a federal office under 18 USC 930, which specifically defines a folding knife with a blade of 2.5" or less as not being a "dangerous weapon" under federal statutes. I had not appreciated the design of teh hilt and the choil until I handled it, however. THe finger grooves and the choil make for a very secure grip on this baby and the "Cobra Hood" over the "Spydie Hole" is grooved on the top to provide thumb of finger purchase as need be. Of course the hood als assists in opening the blade, as well. I reall like the blue color, I think that it is one of the handsomest colors that I have seen on a knife in years, the same applying to the BF Native, and I find the wire clip an extreme improvement over that on the "Q" model, being more like that on the Meerkat. The blade shape is great for general utility chores, plenty of belly and flat grind. My one point of curiosity is the notchiness when I first start to open or when I finish closing the blade. I am thinking that it has to do with keeping the blade securely closed, what wit the knife being a "tip-up" design. Speaking of security, the Compression Lock is just great on it, a bit grittier than on my Li'l Temperance and my Gunting at first, but it quickly settled into proper working order with a bit of use. My expectation has turned into satisfaction.

I really like the Salsa. I think that you cant go wrong with the size of the knife or the blade geometry. Some people have gripes about the cobra hood, but I think that it is a neat addition to a neat little Spyder. Oh, and the odd feeling when opening and closing the Salsa is the compression lock detent. It's definitely a secure way to keep the blade shut!
Enjoy yours, but be careful trying to switch clip positions, it's a real bear!,

Fuller, it's great to hear that you finally got your Salsa. :)

I'm still waiting for my Vesuvius.....

..it SHOULD be in this week. (At least that's what I was told.)

Thank you Fuller. It's a new design and a new maker with many new concepts that have yet to be in the ELUs hands. We appreciate all of the input we can get.

Sal, thanks for your reply. I believe that you have a winner here. The only improvement that I can see is a better steel in the blade, and that would undoubtedly cause an increase in the price, so it is, as with everything in life, a balance of plusses and minusses. The AUS-8 seems to be a pretty good steel, from what I have read, but I have often stated my love for CPM440V and I know how expensive that particular steel is to buy and to work.
