Ordered up a Russell "Green River Works" whittler made in Germany. I understand these were being made by Boker and use the carbon steel. Hoping the quality is good or at least better than my last Bear and Son. My first carbon steel slipjoint and I am hoping it develops a nice patina over the years. Anyone have any experience with these knives?

Will update this with a review once it arrives.

Haven't had a German made Russell, but I do have a vintage German Boker Tree Brand Barlow & absolutely love it. It has carbon blades & even metal bolsters. Nice little knife (3 5/16"). It has 1/2 stops, which on this knife isn't a bad thing.

Got a German-made Russell grandaddy barlow a couple of years ago.

The sawn bone scales are lovely, back spring was very good, but there was so much blade play I had to send it back and get another one, which was much better.

my only experience of this maker.

Got a Barlow in sawn bone which is all round excellent.Too bad these knives are no longer easy to find.Do let us know about the Whittler when you get time.

The current productions (grandaddy barlows) are economy users. Not a lot of time spent on craftsmanship... Every knife has its price, but I recently picked up a few of these and was not impressed.

The older models are a different story.

Thanks for the feedback and replies.
I received the knife and I am a happy camper.
Fit and finish is good with a minor gap at the main blade end between the springs.
Blades are not what I consider sharp by any means but this was a non-issue since I would probably have hit it with the stones anyhow. Blades take a mean edge and the thin blades make for some great whittling. Based on my experience sharpening I would say that they seem to have the heat treat done right. Blade snap on the two smaller blades is good but the main blade was stiff out of the box. This has improved through use but I wonder if having the double spring will effect this blade differently anyhow.

I wanted this knife because it matches my first name and had every intention of using it regularly. I expect it will perform well in the EDC roll. It is a nice looking knife but it is not safe queen kinda nice.
