I ordered a CMP Garand. I'm still waiting for it. It may be thirty days, or I may have to agonize three months waiting for it to arrive.
This will be my fifth gun. Not bad for someone who's only been into guns for eight months. My first was a .22 pistol. I followed that up with two 1911s. I just bought a .22 boltie and will be taking possession of it on Saturday. All of them are fine guns, and I'm fond of each one. This is different though. I don't know what it is about Garands, they're special. I can't explain it. But I'm willing to bet that some of you know exactly what I'm talking about.
I haven't been excited like this in a long time, not since I bought my first HI. I knew when I saw my first khukuri that I had to have one. There was something about them that appealed to me on an instinctual, primal level. Maybe it was the graceful lines. Maybe it was the well-thought out and powerful design. Whatever it is the Garand and a good khuk seem to complement each other nicely.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the CMP sends me.
