I got mine today-- One in Red/Black G10 with black, and two in Black Canvas with tanker gray blades. The first thing I noticed about the G10 handle was: "Damn, that's pretty." The second thing was: "Damn, that's heavy."

I like them all, but I like the feel (both weight and texture) of the canvas micarta a lot better.

I got a red/blk g10 on black and I thought the same. I liked them both, but I like my canvas micarta a little better.

You now i never notice till this thread but your right,on all counts,,The g-10 handles are heavier ,but more like an art form in their design yet very solid,

I had both a micarta and G10 waki, and I felt very little difference in their weight. Using a pen to measure the balance point, there was less than a quarter of an inch of difference in balance - pretty insignificant in a blade as large as the waki.

I sold the micarta.

Don't want to stray off topic too much but I agree about the handle materials. I have chopweilers in both g10 and micarta. The micarta just feels better...softer and warmer, especially when chopping. Smoothing out the g10 helps a bit. It's heavier too.

Yall need to hit the gym fellas, my g10 waki's light as a feather and cuts light a torch!!!!!

Hmmm... Though I do love my Waki, the frase "light as a feather" never quite enters my mind.

I'm 6' 2" I bench around 350 lbs, but at a full 2 pounds, swinging this blade feels a little like swinging a crowbar compaired to all the other waki-like machetes I own. ....not that that is such a bad thing. :D

I hear that! I'm not benching in the ball park, but I was surprised by the heft of the waki. And I'm with you...it's a good thing! Saw a cool looking Himalayan Import today that was 1 handed and heading towards...5 lbs if I remember right???

My last sword was a full pound heavier so I'm not complainin'

I'm not complaoining either. I was just expressing a preference for the feel of the somewhat lighter micarta handles.

It is my impression that the g10 will look better after the same amount of usage ie. it is less susceptible to wear and tear. Either way, I like the look better so I am quite happy.

i don't know if this is as noticeable with the micarta handles, i only have one Waki :( but there's a sharp edge around each of the holes where the tubing attaches the scales to the handle.

it's a little bothersome, i've been tempted to try to sand it down a little, but probably never will.

To be fair, how many of the other waki-like machetes you have could take the beating the waki walks away from?

Oh they're so much fun, congrats.:thumbup:

As a rule I don't like G10 on a fixed blade.:o I do have G10 on two of my Busses but if micarta would of been a option at the time they would of been micarta.

As for Waki weight, I handled both at Blade and as usual preferred the micarta for feel and weight. I didn't find either of them excessive in weight though. I myself find the Waki to be light.

I will say not being a sword guy I had to teach myself to get the proper non vibrating swing.:) I got her down now.:D

Hmm..I haven't noticed that with the micarta.

Anyone else notice this with their G10?
