All stoked on the arrival of the 1311, I decided to have a little chop off...

Where to begin? Hmm, there are these crazy bananas trying to take over the yard that I keep cutting back...

It's been dry and they haven't grown much since I last cut them. Super easy job.

Both chopped through this stuff like it wasn't even there. I preferred the Waki here, just for its reach potential. On to some bigger naners ouside the fence.

I chopped bananas up 10" diameter. In this case I preferred the shortness of the 1311 as space was tight. Again, both knives performed similarly, but the chopping was slightly easier and safer with the 1311. Brought out my old Filipino leaf spring machetes that I used to chop bananas a lot with before, for performance comparison to something I was famliar with. They had pretty fresh edges.

Pfffffft...no contest. Substantially easier chopping with the Waki and 1311 over the (somewhat heavier) other blades. I'm really liking this 1311. The handle would be much more comfortable for me if it was fatter. I much prefer the canvas micarta Waki handle. This is my first res-c. I find it more slippery than the canvas. Would I like the res-c better for a longer chopping sesh on harder material (less impact + vibration)? I wonder. Maybe I'll try wrap a layer of cord on it. Kk, onward.

Started with this small stuff, and chopped branches up to 3" off of this tree. Lost patience for taking pictures. Now the Waki's trailing. The compactness and greater weight per blade length of the 1311 really shines as the material being chopped gets harder and space gets tighter. I'm coming to really appreciate the length of the 1311 -- a really good balance of different worlds/a very versatile creature. Anyhoo, that's as far as I made it today. I look forward to comparison chopping bigger, denser wood with these two, and in more open space. Cheers, bedtime. :)

Thanks for the review.
It only increased my eagerness to get the 1311 in my hands and go chop something!:D

Thanks for the review.

Everytime I read 1311 reviews my eagerness to use mine (when they arrive) increases.

I have never been stupid with knives but have generally been protective of them to an extent.

Given its performance (from what people have written) it will be hard to justify carrying the machetes I currently own..

"The handle would be much more comfortable for me if it was fatter. "

Totally agree with you there! I wonder why the handle is so small? I was really hoping for something to fill my hand and give a little more confidence while chopping.
Great review, thanks!
