I was in Wal-mart today and to my surprise, they had a Kershaw Blackout and the Echo. Before this they only carried Schrade, Leatherman, SAK'S and Gerber.

I was there too but didn't make it to the sporting goods section.Wished I had!I hope the prices were within Walmarts usual limits.tom.

Yeah, I noticed my local Wally World carrying the Black Out. Better hope they got plenty of band-aids on hand behind the counter ;)

I love Wal-Mart, great prices on shotguns (and ammo), and I never have to drive far. I can't wait for the supervisor to ask what "Speed Safe Assist" is.....:)

I noticed the same phenominon at K-mart a couple of days ago. I did an extreme double take as I spied a Gerber AR. This is the relatively new 3.00 inch AUS-8A black bladed fellow. It has a very comfortable aluminum handle with attractive Kraton inserts, and a very well designed deep carry pocket clip. The only bad thing with K-mart, is that their blades are always in a "clam-shell" type of advertising package. You can never play with one before you buy it.

Wal~Mart also carries a lot of Clam-shell packaged Shrades this time of year. Check them close, you will notice that quite a few are seconds. Logo's inserted upside-down, misgrinds on the blades, wrong part numbers on the blades, etc. Good values on closeouts, but I don't pay their full price. I got my nephews Sharpfinger seconds a couple of years ago. I sharpened the knives to an acceptable level and burned their names in the sheaths. They thought the knives and their uncle were cool!

Wal-Mart up here used to carry Spyderco's, but they stopped for some reason. They had the basic models: Rescue, Delica, Police, etc. At least they still have a few of the Cold Steel knives though. and when it comes to simple use, it's hard to turn a nose up to the plain ole Bucks, Schrades, Gerbers, etc. Sure do wish they'd bring back the Spydies though.

I'll have to check my local Wal-mart sometime. Last time I went they had phased out the Remington and Case knives and carried only Schrade, SAK, a couple Buck knives, and several Imperial and Frontier(??) knives. That was a while ago.

At the K-Mart I'm most familiar with (I rarely go there) they used to carry some Gerbers, Schrades, and Wenger SAKs, but then stopped and carried only cheap Chinese-made Buck lookalikes.

I noticed at a Sport Chalet they had the VG-10 Endura, but only in fully serrated. I have 3 fully-serrated Enduras, so if I do get a VG-10 version it will probably have to be plain.

Yea, two days ago I bought the Gerber AR. Not a bad knife. I haven't been to k-mart and wal-mart in awhile ill have to look!

Wal-Mart has always carried pretty good production knives. Nothing wrong with a Leatherman, Buck, or most Gerbers. Even Schrade makes good knives - for production knives that is. Personally, I do not care for Kershaw knives but there are those of you who do.

Yup! I'd have to say Their Uncle is cool too.Great way the get Them started on a lifetime of fun with knives.tom.:D

I work at walmart. I'm proud that my employer is not giving into the knife-phobia that is sweeping america after september 11. That's what's good about a company that started in the south!

I have noticed better knives at Wal-Mart. I recently bought a Leatherman Wave there at a price competitive with discount internet sites. The only thing that concerns me is that they are selling speed-safe Kershaws. Although these are being sold at close to full retail, a Blackout is still cheap enough that some fool will buy one and then there may talk about classifying them as "switchblades." That is the downside of mass access to cool tools.

I work part time at the local Super Center in the Sporting Goods dept. We have also started carrying a few Kershaws, but no speed assist in our case. We have the Echo, DWO, and a couple others. These have been good sellers so far. The knife I am most impressed with is the Buck camo Protege with thumb opener. I really like the handfull of handle it has. The Buck 110 @ $35.00 is the most expensive knife we carry and most people balk at that. I won't even divulge the price of my large wood inlayed Sebenza I carry! Don't want any customers going into "sticker shock"!!!
