I've read alot of favorable comments about the Spyderco Native available at Wal-Mart. The Wal-Mart in my town doesn't carry them.

I'm curious how it compares to the Kabar-Dozier; they seem similar in size and heavy duty build. Is the Native worth twice the price of the Dozier?

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, I think it is. The Native has better steel and F+F. The Dozier is very good for the $$ though.

You can't go wrong with the Dozier...and if you went out the door with it in your pocket every morning you would be well served throughout the day. However, the Native is worth the extra $20 . Why ?....because it's a Spyderco.

The walmart by my location also did not carry the Native. However I ordered it online and was given two options. Have it delivered to the Walmart by my location for pickup and not get charged a shipping fee...or have it delivered. Since my Walmart did not have the second option, I had the Native delivered to my house for an additional 5$. So total, you pay 45$ for the same Native.

I have both the Native from Wal-Mart and all 3 versions of the Dozier, they are nice, but the Native really is worth the extra money.

The Native is made with a premium wear resistant alloy, S30V. It is the least expensive knife you can buy made with that alloy. It is also made by a premium quality manufacturer so you can expect to see superior performance out of that superior alloy. The Kabars are made with a good grade of stainless, but not as wear resistant.

I have both the dozier and the native. IMO I think the spyderco is worth the extra $$ considering it is still affordably priced. I think the spyderco feels more stout in hand and has a nice safety notch for your finger rest above the fold on the steel. It is a great sharp and tough little knife. Plus if your from Colorado they are made in Golden!

Actually the Buck Hartsook Neck Knife features S30V and can be had for roughly half the price of the Native.

Have not handled any of the doziers myself but I'm a big fan of the Native.

I've had the Native for about 2 years now and carry it quite a bit. Now that I reground the blade a bit to get that shallow hollow grind out and convexed the edge, it's probably my best cutting production folder; not that I have many. The HT on mine isn't as good as what the custom knives get(based on the ones I made and D'Holder HT'd), but it still holds an excellent edge. Nice little knife overall.

I have the native but not the Dozier. I have to go against the grain- I have big hands and the native does not fit my hand at all, even putting my index finger in the choil- it simply feels awkward in my hand. I also feel that it is too thin for my tastes. There was nothing at all wrong with the knife apart from that. I bought it more to see what the buzz about S30V was and then I bought higher priced knive with that steel. I gave mine to my mother and she uses it in her office to open boxes and stuff, she hasn't had any complaints.

Is it worth the price- I don't know, I won't be buying another. The steel is good, but otherwise it doesn't do much for me. If you can find one that you can hold to see if it will fit your hand, that may decide it for you.

Thanks for your replies. I have the Dozier but am looking at getting something new. I'm also considering the Centofante III. I have a Delica, Endura, and old stainless steel Standard, which is a real workhorse.

The Walmart by me just has crappy Gerbers. Where is your Walmart located?
...Knifeland Twp., S30V County, USA? :D

The Native is probably the best deal going for a folder right now. S30V is a fantastic steel that will outperform AUS8 easily.

Since you have a Spyderco in VG10, go for the Native. I got big mitts and the Native works for me just fine. It really is a versatile knife that holds a great edge. That said, the Centofante III is a spectacular piece of work. It's got a nice thin hollow ground blade and is a great lookin sturdy knife. The Native and Cento III are two of my must have Spyders. You really should get both. They're that good.

Have a Walmart Native here---nice enough knife but it never grew on me---one of those if I lost it - it wouldn't bother me much knives---other than being out $40 bucks.
