Anyone have any opinions/experiences with the Walden Knife Company knives? I recently acquired a walnut handled "peanut" and so far it's one of my favorites. How do they rate with other "American" made knives? I thought I'd post this here because they are a by product of schrade--right??

Is it one of the new Waldens from Smoky Mountain Knife Works? I bought one of the trappers out of curiosity and I like it. It is a better knife than I expected. Put together well with good walk and talk. I don't know how the blades will stand up as I haven't used it hard. But, then again, very few of my knives get used hard.

I'll post a photo of it later today.

I will not buy one of the chinese made Schrades. I'm not that curious.

They are new production knives made in Jacksonville, Alabama by Bear and Son, comissioned by Smokey Mountain Knife Works under licensing of the Schrade Walden, New York Knife Company, and Walden Knife Company names from Taylor Brands LLC. They are American made, and from what I have read and seen, I would expect them to be of the same quality of workmanship and materials as Bear and Son knives, pretty good.

Here are the patterns I have seen so far:

Schrade Walden/NY USA
Walden Knife Company (Both U.S. Contracted by SMKW,
Mfg. by Bear and Son, Jacksonville, Alabama)

1. 787Y Muskrat* Yellow Delrin
2. 834Y Medium Stockman 3 1/4" Yellow Delrin
3. Stockman 3 7/8" Jig bone
4. Muskrat 3 7/8" Jig bone
5. 2 Bl. Trapper 4 1/8" Jig Bone
6. Peanut 2 7/8" Jig Bone
7. Razor 4" Jig Bone
8. Stockman 3 7/8" Walnut
9. 2 Bl. Trapper 4 1/8" Walnut
10. Peanut 2 7/8" Walnut
11. Razor 4" Walnut

New York Knife Company (U.S. Contracted by SMKW,
Mfg. by Bear and Son, Jacksonville, Alabama)

1. Large Bowie "Hammer Brand" buffalo horn handle*
2. Sowbelly razor knife "Hammer Brand" stag handle*
************************

If you want to venture beyond the huge stock of patterns of Imperial Schrades and their ancestors, you could do worse than to buy American knives from Bear/SMKW. But IMHO, they will never be Schrades.

Here is the picture I promised...

I like it. It is actually thin for a trapper although the blades don't appear to be thinner than most.

It is my understanding that that walnut used on the Bear/Walden knives is actually Schrade old stock. Is it possible LT? Was there a stockpile of it there?

CapCase, I like the back ground you have chosen for your pics. Nice, new knives on the tailgate of a well-used pickup truck--- photographic genius!

Thanks. I thought the tailgate on my ol' Ford would look good in the pictures. It's also an easy background to set up. Lower tailgate, place knife, take picture. :D Then I put the picture on my computer, see the light was bad or I cut off the handle, go back outside and relower tailgate, place knife again and rephotograph. :o My neighbors have been giving me strange looks though.

& now my question.
I was on ebay
& looking at a couple of Schrade (from the factory after the doors closed )lock knives . Blue bone handled & a stag handled one . Hey they look great. I was interested in them to keep & give to my young sons when they are old enough to appreciate. This will not be for many years.
Are these genuine Schrade knives or not - they look great in the pictures (big deal) & are they worth buying at $100 US (approx)?? can anyone help?
cheers.

Bear did buy one of the raw materials warehouses at the auction.
