I just got back from taking a walk around Walden Pond. I'm sure a lot of you know that this is where Henry David Thoreau built his cabin in the woods. I've lived in Massachusetts all my life and have never been here until now.

This is the actual site where the cabin was. Obviously, I brought a Game Warden along for the walk.:D

This is a pile of rocks which I guess were originally from the fireplace, but people bring rocks up from the shore to add to the pile and make rock sculptures.

A view from the cabin to the pond. This part of the pond is now called Thoreau's Cove.

Wow ! Thanks for these pics and the opportunity to learn something. That looks like a really peaceful and inspiring place. Wish I could just drop everything and go live in the woods. That takes Balls !

great pics!! ive always meant to read walden again.

what always struck me as interesting, was to thoreau living was being alone in the woods. without the distraction of civilization or people.

for me, living is being surrounded by people i care about, sharing my thoughts and experiences. not that i dont enjoy being in the wild and soaking up the beauty.

even with the vast differences in life philosophy, i still find parallels in the thought process.

Thank you for posting these pix... Very cool! Beautiful.:thumbup:

Beautiful pics !

I miss autumn in the east, but thats all I miss about it.

I've never been to Walden, but it's on my list. My senior (hs) paper was on Thoreau, I'd been studying his works through high school... my non-violent hippy days, remember Ghandi & MLK based their civil disobedience on his essay, I wound up volunteering for the military :D.

I'm stealing a copy of your GW sitting on the marker picture, one of these days I'll take my own.

Thanks

Nice pics! Thanks Voppa. You know, I've lived here almost all my life too, and I've never been there. It's not too far from me either. I'll add it to my list of things to do.

Great pics! Thanks for posting them.

I was there just a few months ago with my wife and baby boy. We had a great time pushing a stroller along those rocky trails and listening to my son crying because he was hot and bored... so much for quiet and solitude in the woods that trip.

We hope to go back when he is older and can appreciate it more. I want to go back and sit at the cabin site and reread Walden at Walden Pond!

Thanks!

LOL. Yeah, those trails are quite narrow and rocky for a stroller. Luckily there weren't too many people there today. I've heard that it can get pretty crowded there in the summer. Overall, a very nice peaceful place.

Great pix. Nice area. So many areas like that in Massachusetts. Thoreau was a liberal commie who wanted to be a SHTF'er but couldn't hack it in the woods alone. Oh yeah, he was a whiner too. LOL

HDT kept it real. We could do a lot worse than everyone being carbon copies of him.

He wasn't a commie. Was he a socialist? Uh, check Wikipedia!
