What exactly is meant when someone says that a knife has good "walk and talk?"

I have been lurking a lot in this forum and am enjoying seeing all the beautiful slip joints and learning about them. Thanks for helping to educate me.

Mike

"Walk" is the feeling of the blade when opening & closing ..... its' smoothness, or lack thereof. Also refers to the amount of "pull" required to open/close.

"Talk" is the sound of the blade snapping into the open or closed position.

Glad to have you here, Mike. Keith pretty much summed it up in his post. Another term that you see sometimes referring to backsprings is "lazy". It means that there is no snap to the action at all. The blade will stop in any position without snapping open or shut by itself. Remember to hide your wallet before you start looking at the pics in here.;)

Yep. In my case, "Walk" is the feel of cash slipping out of my wallet, and "Talk" is the tongue lashing I get from my wife when every time I show up with a new knife. ;)

You need to get an underground stash:D

'Walk' is my fingers over the keyboard to order another knife.

'Talk' is me telling myself it'll be the last:eek: Right:D

Welcome to the slippery world of slipjoints MEP. There is a lot of strange vernacular thrown around here.

"Walk and Talk" all good ones have, but the great ones have "Slip and Slide" as well. Did it make you slip into your wallet and slide over the cash.:D

Thanks to you guys for your replys. I have my eye on a couple of peanuts and a mini trapper and a swayback. I really love some of the offerings from the custom makers.

I have already spent a bunch of money on 2 Chris Reeves knives and several Benchmades, but I have always liked the look of traditional folders but I only have the Case 3 blade Trapper that I have owned for about 40 years. There are more knives on the way.

It's the feeling or response from working the action of a knife and which is basically missing from todays' production traditional knives, among other things. There I said it, but I've been holding back as long as I could ever since buying a new Case as a gift for Christmas. Pitiful and I'll never buy another. I've never been a Case fan but the design on paper (copperhead) was what I was looking for. To bad it's all show and no go. I feel better thanks for listening.
