"walk & talk"?

Not sure as to which is "walk" and which is "talk" but it has to do with how strong the backspring feels when the blades are opened and closed and how much "snap" is in the blades as they are opened and closed. I am interested in learning more about this also.

As I understand it, "walk" is the smoothnes (or lack of) that the blade opens with as it moves along the backspring, and "talk" is the force that the blade closes with (snap). Basically you are looking for a smooth operner with a nice positve snap when closing. Both walk and talk are directly related to the quiality/design of the back spring, although a pivot that is sloppy or too loose would change the mix some.

From Schrade Cutlery, this is the definition I have always understood.

"Springs are made either single-end or double-end, depending on whether they're for a Jackknife or a double-end knife. A knife that opens smoothly and whose blade snaps into open position with a lively click is said to "walk". When the blade snaps shut similarly it is said to "talk": All properly adjusted knives are said to "walk" and "talk"."
