Ok After much planning and figuring out dates, We came up with the September 24-27 where a group of us would hike in to get to practice some basic skills. I would realy like to try new stuff and hope to learn alot from others. For now we have a sure thing from David, Ray and me Sasha. WIth a maybe for Chris and John . If anyone would like to join us we have room for two more WSS guys. We do want to keep the group small. I must say every time a group of us got togher we had lots of fun. So if you have some free time for the weekend come and join us. Email Dave (DWK2) or me. If you live close by we might just carpool. Im excited about it and went with my nephew on a hike yesterday to practice some skills. We used our new Vic Outrider knifes to make rope a few traps and just play around. I got knife for each or us and he is loving it. I took a camera to take a few pic to post, just to find out the batteries died and someone took the spares out... I hope some new guys would like to join us. I expect lots of fun and nothing beats sitting by a fire in the evening with the open sky above us...

sounds like a lot of fun Sasha... i wish i could make it man...:o that is the same weekend as a big archery shoot we go to every year....

You ended up with the Outrider after all, splendid.

From what I recall of your last group venture you were the only one that didn't stall at eating grubs. I wonder if that will come up again this time.

Its o.k Mike in October we are going to have Bush Bash II. Im sure we are going to see you there. Actualy it was one of the things we talked about so you can make it for the get togher.

Baldtaco yep i were the only one who eat it. It was actualy good if you ask me. I should have fried it with some garlic. If there were more of them i could have made a great meal... Oh well we see what we could kill on this trip lol..
You kill it you eat it, Right?????

Dunno, I can think of exceptions that don't violate my moral compass. I can't abide pure trophy killing, wanton wasting of life, or playing up the role of X as vermin despite scientific data though. The latter happens a bunch here with badgers. If I could arm the badgers with Dragon's Breath rounds and a method of delivering them to the swines I would. :-)

Baldtaco im with you ... Not into killing for the fun of just killing. But if its for food im all for it... Heck if im hungry enough long pig would go in the pot as well... White meat is white meat... Been told there would be some trout in the area. Some more small critters.. I would bring my garlic and spices .. Actualy i carried some going out to eat, yes i know its nuts.

Sasha

Mike: Because of conflicts in Chris' and your schedules, as well as the plans of Bearthedog, we moved Bush Bash II to the weekend of October 23-25. We hope there's a chance you can make that weekend.

baldtaco-II: I'm a meat hunter. I like seeing badgers and agree that some landowners are misguided in trying to eliminate them. I have found pure "trophy" hunting to be extremely rare. In fact, waste of a big game animal is a felony in many jurisdictions. Even among hunters who want to display antlers, etc., you will find the meat is almost universally put to good use. Now poachers who are just after antlers or bear gall bladders are another story. They are criminal dirtbags, not hunters, and I will always participate in trying to catch those types.

Sasha: I think you have a good suggestion and will be interested to see who wants to train wilderness/survival skills with you.

If anyone wants to discuss the plan, they can e-mail either Sasha or me. I can be reached through swsurgical@hotmail.com.

Thanks dave it would be nice to get a full group of people. I expect to try new things do over some old things. Learn as much as i can from you and every one else as well. See how everything works togher for a few days and most of all have some good fun.

Sasha

So, what exactly is the plan? To learn from each other as you watch each other work, or to pool resources.

Sounds like a fun group. If you ever need a token lazy out-of-shape beer drinking slob just let me know. I need TV reception and cheetos too.

Baldtaco i never done anything with a group before. The idea i had in mind we hike in to the spot that Dave thinks is the best one. Then we proced to set up camp What ever we would need to stay warm and comfy. Get food togher, What ever else we need to do if we were stranded out there. Mostly it would be to help each other out and to pool resources. while at it we would help and learn from each other and maybe come with better ideas on how to do things. After we got the basics done we would just play it by ear and enjoy our selfs. Maybe make snares catch fish and hike around.. The idea is to make do with the min we can and to see what works for each one of us and learn... I would like to come back knowing i practiced some of the things and used what i know, Learned new things and had fun doing it all. So next time someone ask me what is the best one knife i can say well thats what i want from my knife. Have fun doing it all and wanted to do it again.

JCavSD you are welcome to join us. Us for cheetos you would need to catch them first i heard they have long legs and jump far. After you get enough of them you would need to roast them over fire.... I do hope you would share as i like cheetos... You can email Dave or me at sashaa1@hotmail.com...

I'm really glad we're finally doing these outings here with the California WSS guys. I used to be jealous when I see other groups doing outings and never here in CA. I thought, "why don't we ever do anything like that here?". Thanks to Sasha and Dave for putting these together.

Thank you for the offer, and I really would consider this, but I'm taking most of the first two weeks of September off for a motorcycle trip in Utah. Going to eat up most of my vacation and half of my will to live (long days of hard riding). I'll certainly keep my eyes open for something like this in the future.

Ray its realy thanks to Dave, He was the one to gave me a kick in the butt to set it up first... I do agree with you seeing all the pics from the other gathering got me envy.. The big problem we have here in CA is that we live in CA lol.... Im already thinking about Bush Bash III in the desert..

Sasha

Where will this be? I have a lot going on over the next month, but if it is not too far I might be able to go.

It will be in the Domelands area, north of Lake Isabella. If you want any more detailed info, please e-mail me at the address above and I'll be happy to discuss.

Thanks,
