Follow a river, it will lead you to safety.

I don't like to drink green water, but I am really thirsty.

When your path is blocked, just get a running start and leap on the bush.

At least the water here is not green.

Finally, good drinking water, pfffft. It's salty.

Looks to me like lots of guys are gettin' spring fever! :) Glad I'm not the only one... I was out in the yard today cutting up some dead branches and stuff, just to "test" my new machete...

It's a $3 Harbor Freight coupon special! With a new profile, convexed edge and curly maple scales courtesy of yours truly... kind of like putting lipstick on a pig I guess. It works though and was a fun project. It makes a nice *shiiiiing!* slicing through the air and rings like a bell when it cuts into the wood.

You can see a little better in this pic, the scales are held on by JBWeld, two N/S thong tubes and a 1/8" N/S pin. Why? Because that's what I had on hand :D

This is how she started:

It's a basic stainless, I think... barely throws a spark on the belt grinder and won't take cold blue at all. 420 maybe? It was pretty easy to work. It's roughly 17" after the reprofiling and cuts pretty nicely... I whacked apart a hard maple branch and stabbed it in the ground a few times; no chipping yet In keeping with the high-end appeal of this fine blade :jerkit: I think I'll leave the swirly palm-sander finish on it, maybe go up to 220 to even out the convex a little more. I've got about $10 and 8 hours' work invested :D

I am from South Louisianna. Boy that terrain brings back memories. Memories of cotton mouths......

We used to do a lot of fishing in the Achalafaya Basin. I miss it.

I was born and raised near the eastern side of the Atchafalaya basin, but I now live in the city. I have fond memories of spending the night catching frogs with our hands with a friend's dad who fished for his living. Or checking his trout lines or crawfishing. We all carried knives and knew how to use them. There was always a Marlin 22 rifle lying around too. I do not ever remember putting on any type of mosquito repellent.

Even to this day, I believe there is no more dangerous snake than the Water Moccasin due to its aggression. If you disturbed it at all, it would chase you on land or water. A mad 4 to 5 foot black snake with that wide open white mouth trying to get into your boat will get the old heart racing.
