Myker, a new forum member, had this knife in his collection for God knows how long. Every time I would see him, I insisted he let me look at and handle the knife. I'm not a big Spyderco fan, but this knife always called to me. Well, about a year or two ago, I guess he finally got sick of my pestering and just up and gave me the knife. It was super generous. He seemed to have a bit of a heart attack when I told him that I would be carrying the knife, and I'm sure he would plotz if he knew that I lost the box.
Anyway, on to the knife...
While I typically don't go in for serrations, the size of this knife really seems to work perfectly with them. The plain edge is great for fine work, but when I need to dig in for heavier cutting, the serrations really pay off.
The knife is a little guy, but it fits my hand nicely. I love that the handle is cut out enough so that my thumb can get a great purchase on the hole when opening, and can get in even better to disengage the lock when closing it. For such a small knife, this is really important as I hate knives that are so small, you find that it gets clumsy in the hand when opening or closing.
Also, while a lot of people, myself included, like a low riding knife, this guy rides high. This is important because your hand doesn't fumble when trying to get it out of the pocket. Reaching for the knife, I find that my whole hand is again able to get a good grip on the knife when pulling it out of the pocket, and it does not feel clumsy when transitioning to opening.
My one complaint of this knife is that it does slide out of the pocket a little too easily. In fact, it fell out of my pocket once while at Disneyland. I think a bag I was carrying caught on it, and it slipped off pretty easily. Luckily my no-knife-alarm went off within seconds and I found it with no problem. I think I might have to add just a bit of grip tape to help give the clip just a bit more bite while in the pocket.
In the words of Ferris Bueller, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."
I hope you enjoyed the pics! Thanks again for the knife, Myker!
