it's something that most of us have on our person, most of the time- so.........

some of you may have seen the micro fire starting kit I posted up a little bit ago

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=705600

I've added a small repair kit- it consists of ~ 3' of duct tape, 3 safety pins, a sturdy needle- it resides in a coffee stirring straw that has the ends sealed (just like a fire straw), around it is wrapped ~ 20' of 25# Spectra (Spiderwire)

fire kit is in the background

wanted to have something to write w/- cut down some RiteintheRain paper, put a couple of staples in it and added a Zebra Mini T3 pen

penpaper.jpg

the paper slides nicely behind the credit cards

wanted a small FAK for minor cuts- added a 6 pack of Steri-Strips 1/8 x 3", two medium-ish bandaids and two sealed coffee stirrers filled w/ triple antibiotic cream

fits nicely in the outside sleeve of the wallet

I added a small tweezer from a SAK- it fit in the sleeve, but I was worried it might works it's way out- so it went in w/ my driver's license and ID

wallet "loaded", it's pretty thin, probably close to half the thickness of my previous wallet :D

I absolutely hate carrying a wallet, but I must. Since it is almost never in my pocket, I carry a minimum of stuff in it, and carry a waterproof bag to drop it in. But I like your thinking.

I have a Swiss lite credit card tool a frenzle lens, Splinter pick, a couple saftey pins, Some rite in the rain paper. A Brunton Survival cards pack a couple alcohol wipes. In my Leather wallet.
Coupled with my Key chain fob.
A fox 40
Photon Micro
Gerber Artifact
Sliver grippers
P38
small horn "three wise monkeys" Netstuke
ranger flint.
small alloy vial of PJCB
Always have a folder and sometimes even a Multi tool ( Multi is easy to explain to LEo than a straight folder here.

My existing wallet has enough in it already. However, I like the idea so I would simply carry a second wallet to haul the additional items. I've got two back pockets and no objection to having a wallet in each.

Thanks for the suggestion.

G'day Carl

... a couple alcohol wipes. In my Leather wallet.
..............
I'm assuming you carry your wallet on your person (eg trouser pocket) when I ask the following question:

Have you noticed any effect of your body heat on the storage life of the alcohol wipes? ie Do they dry out quicker?

Kind regards
Mick

I currently just carry wallet things in my wallet. I used to carry 1 large razor blade, with duct tape wrapped around the sheath.

I never used it in over 10 years, so I removed that little bit of thickness from my wallet.

I really like your thought process. How about adding one of those titanium credit card/type things?

I'm giving thought to some kind of cutting instrument- needs to be thin, I'd like it to be knife shaped if possible- I might play around w/ some stuff I have around the house

It's not super thin, but I have one of those Spyderco "Spydercards" from many years ago. It is a rectangular folder about the size of a credit card that can be slipped into a wallet.

Good little kit you put together, looks very well done.

I , personally, like to keep my wallet as thin as possible, so I keep minimal survival kit in there. I do keep a frensel lense and some lock picks in there though.

Mick, Carl may have had different experiences, but I have found that any of the alcohol or BZK wipes that I keep in my wallet eventually completely dry out. I try to go through them regularly; I think that the abrasion wears small holes in them, or maybe the seal around the edge wears out with heat or abrasion allowing the moisture to escape.

I gradually built up a mini first aid kit in my wallet after I had kids; when they were little they were easily pacified with bandages for scrapes, and now that they are older it still makes sense to me. Similarly the kids taught me to always have at least two bandanas with me, which double as nose-wipes, napkins, etc. In my wallet I mostly carry a couple of self adhesive bandages in 1x3" and the new larger 2x4.5" size, a couple of wipes and a couple of butterfly bandages just in case. I tried chewable medications for the kids, but they quickly grind themselves into a powder. I do still keep a couple of non-chewable ibuprophen and antihistamine tablets in there though; I go through them before they grind down usually. I also have a 3' strip of duct tape folded to fit in with my credit cards, and I have a credit card sized mirror. I have far better first aid kits that I keep in each car, my work lunch bag, home, even the seat bags on the kids' bikes (mostly Adventure Medical Kits stuff); this is just what I keep in my wallet just in case.

The credit card tools/knives look cool, but I don't want to find myself in an airport having forgotten to take it out; I've done this before when I had a Leatherman Micra on my keyring. I keep my tools separate from my wallet or keys for that reason.

I carry an old Eagle Creek wallet with zippered compartments in it. I have bandaids, butterfly bandaids, needle and thread, 2 safety pins, emergency contact phone numbers, duct tape, and my lucky angel coin. I want to thank you for starting this thread. In the one zipper pocket with the phone numbers and angel coin I found $50 I forgot I put there!

^^ha! Thats great John!

I carry a Maxpedition Spartan Wallet now. I had a leather one for many years, but I got this one free with my Lunada last year sometime, and switched to it. Its great!! Lots of compartments, and neatly set up. I like your kit, and am gonna do one up just to see how it fits.

That's a cool kit.

I used to keep stuff like that in my wallet, but it started growing to George Costanza proportions so I put it on a diet. Now my wallet is a very small and thin one with just a couple of cards, cash (if I'm lucky) and i.d.

However, I always carry a Miquelrius mini notebook that is about 2.5" X 4.5". It has a small pencil clipped to the front cover and there is a little pocket on the back cover where I keep a book of matches. I ought to follow your lead and toss in some needles and thread too.

A Boker Subcom is credit card -sized, and might be doable in a wallet if you remove the pocket clip.

Looks well thought out, but I hate having all that bulk in my wallet. I'm working on building something similar using a small point and shoot camera bag that has enough strap to be carried man purse style. It's smaller and less tactical looking then the maxpedition bags. Of course if you don't have it with you it does you no good, so that's one area where the wallet setup definitely has an advantage.

nice pouch :) Maxped makes some pretty small, unobtrusive pouches as well

for a cutting tool, I'm going to see about getting something along these lines built ~1/16-3/32" stock
