KENSBOWIEBYM.jpg
Greetings all! last year I joined blade forums and made inquiries regarding having a rather large (in fact huge) bowie made. Well I discovered that M.S. Wally Hayes lived no more than a twelve minute drive from my place, so I commissioned him to forge this behemoth:

Overall length:18 1/2 inches
Blade length: 13 inches
Blade width: a little over 2 1/2 inches
Blade thickness: 1/4"
Steel used on blade and guard: forged Starrett O-1 toolsteel
Edge: 59 Rc
Back: 45 Rc
Handle: African Blackwood

The Blade is flat ground with a convex edge and is hair popping sharp. Suprisingly, it's relatively light for it's size at only 2 lbs. Wally sure does do some great work, and this is no exception. I placed it alongside a number of other bowies in my collection, and some of them have gone missing... I think this monster might have eaten a few of them!

Cheers, Ken

I love big bowies, but my preference is for the width of the blade at the guard to be the same as the width of the handle at the guard. I find it more aesthetically pleasing.

This was a lot of fun to make . Thanks for posting a pic Ken, It has a leather with ostrich overlay sheath.
Cheers, Wally Hayes

If it was, I don't think the average guy could hold it very well Keith.:D

Very Iron Misstress-ish there Wally. What a beauty!

Keith is opining that there should be a narrowed choil region on this piece(I think), and if that is the case, I agree with him.

Hey Wally, thanks for posting about the sheath, can't believe I actually forgot to mention it. Great Job, thanks again.

Cheers, Ken
