As a new-product developer, I get all these notices across my desk (it's always good to learn from other's mistakes). I rarely post them here at bf.c because there are so many of them and most are rather esoteric. But this one is big, upwards of a million coffee makers sold nation-wide. With that many units out there, it's likely that at least one bf.c member has one.
Walmart and GE are recalling over 900,000 Model 169164 and 169165 automatic drip coffee makers. A defect can cause these appliances to overheat resulting in burns and fires. These units were sold nation-wide exclusively through Walmart stores between March of 2008 and January of 2010.

When you buy new products, especially electrical products, it is important to send in those registration forms so that you will be notified if there is a recall of that product. It's really annoying when a $30 coffee maker burns your house down.
