I'm looking for a Buck 110 with the 2009 datecode stamped on the blade. Problem is that all I see now at Walmart are the 110 in blister packs and you can't see the datecode stamped on the blade. I noticed that these blister packs are different from last years. Has anyone bought the 110 at Walmart in the new blister pack and could you let me know if the date code is 2009(arrow pointing right)?

Yes, I bought one yesterday at wally world. It was the new blister pack but I discovered a 2008 date stamp on the blade when I got home. I also saw one in a box that had a 01/05/09 date on the box but contained a knife with a 2008 date stamp. Guess I'm not supposed to have a 2009 110.

You might try asking if they have any under the counter in a box. My local WM has them in boxes.

It is possible that knives are/were being built in 2009 with 2008 blades. They will keep using them till the inventory is done I would think. Tony is giving good advise...a boxed version may be more likely to be a 2009.

My local Walmart also has them in boxes. This is great because you can check it out before buying. The first one I got locked up like a bank vault with no blade play -- it was perfect. A few weeks later I decided to pick up another for the car (at $30 it's a steal, or should I say, "steel"!). But I checked it out and instead of a nice snap when I opened it, it had a tentative and wimpy sounding lock up, and had a lot of blade play. I passed on that one.

Ok. I found a Walmart that has the knife display case. When I see that, I know they have the knives in boxes. He had 3 Buck 110 in boxes. All of them had the arrow up (2008). The search continues.....

If you can't find one locally, give one of the online retailers a call and ask them to look through what they have and send you a 2009 stamp. Most are willing to take that extra step for the customer.

Knife plus shipping probably wouldn't be too much more than the knife plus gas you're using to look for it.

Thought that I would chime in from Ohio. Mine has a 2008 stamp also, bought in May at WallyMart.

I finally found a 110 with the arrow right date code (2009). Had to go out about 17 miles away to a Walmart out of town. That Walmart still sold knives the old way with the pictures on the counter display. When they do it that way, you know the Bucks are definitely in the box. My box had a 3-19-2009 date on it. :)

That cool, I'm glade you found what you were looking for... How much are they at your wal-mart now???

Excuse my ignorance about Buck knives (until today, I had only one, a Knight that I take to the office every day in my pocket). This morning I went to WalMart and bought a 110. After reading this thread on 2009s, I checked and discovered my new Buck is a 2008 model. I've looked through the forum and can't find anything on why a 2009 would be preferable to a 2008. Should I return it and search for this year's model, and if so, why? As I said, it's my first 110 (though a friend of mine in the early 70s had one, and I still remember it...just took me a few years to get around to buying one myself).

I don't notice any blade play, but I find it difficult to unlock and fold. Does it smooth out?

Thanks for your sage advice.

Dennis

Dennis, welcome to the Buck Forum... I think he just wanted a 2009 model... There both the same, just different year marks... A little oil and keep working it... Some one else will come along and tell you more about the knife I'm sure...

I like any year mark I find... I'm not really trying to get one from every year... But that would be cool... ...

On some of the blister or clam packs, down at the bottom on the back, where the bar code is, might also be a date. Should be a good indicator of what year stamp the knife has.

You can take some WD40 to your new one, saturate it pretty good and work the blade for a while. Keep spraying it with a little WD to wash out whatever it is they used in there when making it.

Then just take some hot soapy water and clean out the WD and any remaining gunk. An air compressor helps. Finish it off with a drop of sewing machine oil or 3 n 1 oil. WD40 is a cleaner not a lubricant.

There are several variations on this so what ever works for you.

I will take and work a 110 blade that I have oiled up, for hours, until I can squeeze the blade and "drop" it open one handed.

OK guys, its sad when a 300 person has to answer someones 110 question.

Dartfrogger,

Many of the people on the Buck forum are collectors, semi-collectors, wannabe collectors or 'closet collectors'. Like climbing Mount Everest we collect because we can, lots of "collectors" want to get the knife(s) of our attraction with every years date code stamped on it. I myself, need yet to get a 303 with 2009s date code and in my lazy way eventually will. For a collector, especially in limited production year knives, having all the date codes of that model is a "intense desire". As far as I know if you want a 110 strictly as a user a 08 will cut a rope just like a 09.

Take my advice, put you hand on the good book today and swear that you will never become a collector. Only a user of knives. Your life will be less complicated and your children won't go hungry......300Bucks
