I didn't want to hijack JB's thread on Wally Bucks so I'll post here. How long has Buck done "custom runs" for the Wal? My first encounter was the Maverick. I don't think I would have bought the standard Maverick but the USA made Wally Maverick was a must have, espiecially for just over 10 bucks (pun). Again almost the exact same reaction for me with the Mesa. The other bucks of the same profile or style wern't so exciting to me but when I saw the Mesa I had to get it, I think it was the sheath that tipped the scales for me, maybe the plain edge also, maybe also the micarta scales...OK whats next Buck/Wal...

I want to say 2013 with the 721 Slimline (which looked like a Spitfire). Then I remember in 2014 when the 50th Anniversary 110's hit Walmart shelves they all came with the nylon dual position sheaths. Everywhere else I saw they were selling them with leather. The next Walmart exclusive I remember was the Reaper with rosewood scales. Then came the USA made Maverik which had white scales, and this years Ascend LT and Mesa.

One interesting thing I have noticed is that it's not just Buck making Walmart exclusives. Gerber has caught on too. I picked up a Gerber Order with grey scales and fine edge clip point blade and they are selling a Gerber Prodigy without the serrated edge.

The exclusives have mainly been an attempt to leverage USA-made items and the flexibility they enable us to have. Notice that every item mentioned above is a USA-made knife. It's so much easier to get mock ups and samples, as well as see feedback incorporated, when the folks making the knives are only one or two timezones behind and speak the same language. No quality is sacrificed, either. The Maverik was originally going to be Chinese (and it was for everyone else) but I got them to build it for me in the US - albeit for more money. Well worth it in my opinion.

On the Order and the Prodigy, I updated the Order color to make it more "every day" than tactical and removed serrations on both to make them easier for your average Joe to sharpen.

I don't want to break to forum rules but... I work at Sam's Club now, a Walmart subsidiary. We have a ways to go with website functionality, but you guys should totally check out the "Camping Supplies" section on samsclub.com... Scroll alllll the way down.

emw479, thanks for the explanation and your involvement with these. I love the Walmart Gerber Order and Prodigy. They look so much better than the standard models and mine were excellent in fit/finish. I have only seen those in one store around here and had to buy them right away. I also own the Buck USA Maverik and the Ascend LT, and both have grown on me. Just checked out the website and saw that some of the blades were 'out of stock' right now but those offerings will make some really nice Christmas gifts this year.

see a few buck sets, among other brands of knives........looks darn good.......

The SOG stuff isn't mine, I swear.

Leatherman prices are wonky right now but they'll be fixed. Like I said, we have a ways to go.

Bravo to you for showing it can be done in the USA and done better. Every one of these exclusives have been special and worth the cost. I will buy every model you put out there and in some cases more than one. Thank you for doing what you do.

Just type in BUCK in the search box.
Too bad, all out of stock.

My local Walmart has not had knives in their knife case in four months. I finally asked someone and was told the lock was broke and the have ordered a new one. 4 months to get a lock? Really? I want to get some of those bucks like everyone else. Also Christmas is coming and I would like to get some for family and friends. I live 3 miles from one but had to go 36 miles to look for some with no luck.

I wish my local had knives in the display counter because I love the box vs. the clammie. Mesa is calling me to hold it but there is a force field rejecting my Buck knife Buck knife opening knife.
