Walmart no longer carrying 119's, end of an era

My local Wally World had their last couple of Buck 119 Specials on clearance. I talked to the sporting goods manager, and was told Walmart is no longer going to carry 119's, and was cutting back on Buck Knives in general. She said Walmart has a new relationship with Camillus, and there would be increasing numbers of Camillus knives carried in the future, at the expense of Buck and Gerber.

This is the end of an era. I cannot think of any time in the past that Walmart has not had Model 119's in their store, and I have been shopping at Walmart for over 30 years.

Our Walmart stoppedcarrying the 119 several months ago. The only carry the 110, a maxlite packlite combo and a china made bone set. Thats it.:grumpy:

I noticed this here, too. I also noted the counter's display - with the actual knife, blade tip down, standing on end! Perhaps the 119 was too long? No sales clerks are usually within sight - I generally have to get someone from Automotive to open the cases, even for ammo. Oddly, they started carrying rifles and shotguns again a while back.

I noticed the same thing. Sadly, I think that even the mass market Bucks were too 'spendy' for WallyWorld's usual clientele. I've seen some of the Camillus products that replaced them and I'm not impressed. My guess is that Camillus is just about giving the knives to Wal-Mart in an effort to get their foot in the door and their products in the display cases.

Yet another reason not to shop at Wal-Mart. I am sure there are plenty of places to buy a Buck that do not sell piles of foreign

made junk. Might cost you a dollar or two more but it is worth it.

I've noticed that my local Wally world is pushing the imported Camillus offerings as well. Not really my style, but then again they are in a business and maybe they are more marketable than Buck knives in general. Not my cup of tea, but maybe somebody else's ? I can't help but wonder if Buck is beginning to loose its mainstream appeal or if it's just lousy marketing on Walmart's part. Hard for me to figure.

I have some older Camillus knives and they are great. I wouldn't own a new imported Camillus though.
Much the same as the original Schrades. Great knives, but the current versions are not even close.

The Buck knives were truly the only quality knives sold at the Wally Mart, and still the best value imho. I hate to see Buck lose a big customer like WM though.

Its funny. We have a local chain of Mart stores called Bi-Mart. They still stock Buck 110's, 119's, and a few others. As well as Benchmade, Kershaw and Gerber.

Same here in Canada, nothing but china made junk going on the display racks in clamshells, its ok,i don't buy much at walmart, the more you support walmart, the more they will shove cheap crap down your throat, enjoy!

It's sad to see Buck lose shelf space at large chain such as this.

As for where the blame goes, your focus is too narrow, and you weren't paying attention to when and how this started. Walmart is just a political football.

Myself, I buy as much homegrown stuff as I can, But a trip to the Hardware Store ain't what it used to be or any other Store for that matter.

Buck makes a great product, at a great price. I hope they can survive in this tough economy.

Kind of ironic.......Wal-Mart, great purveyor of NON-American goods, destroyer of American jobs and abuser of poverty level employees......now stabbing the greatest American knife maker in the back.

I hear a bunch of their employees have gone on strike. Good for them. I hope Wal-Mart loses a fortune.

Before the Most Favored Nation status changed in the 1990's, this wasn't an issue.

You're barking up the wrong tree. This an issue for the Political Arena and not the Buck Knife forum IMHO.

+1 I, for one, am sick of the Walmart bashing. :grumpy:

Seriously ?

Purveyor of Non American goods. You mean like most other stores ?
Destroyer of American jobs ? Funny. There are quite a few people working at ours, and they are in the middle of a huge renovation and expansion, so a lot of construction workers are working 24/7, and I would bet they haven't seen a lot of that lately.

As far as I can tell, we haven't had any businesses close because Wal Mart opened a store here. In fact, many unemployed people are greatful to be able to do their grocery shopping, and save quite a bit of money.

Strike ? Wal Mart won't lose a dime. They can easily replace the striking workers, with many of the others who have applied, and would love to have the job. Any job...

O.K, enough said on this subject. The bottom line is, it is still sad for Buck to lose a big customer like Wal Mart.

Walmart has killed our little town here,we had k mart and a zellers store for 35 years ,one walmart built and now both stores are folded.Walmart sells nothing but cheap junk in my opinion, thats why i don't buy much there, its all crap that falls apart and then gets thrown away.

Agreed. I mean point me in the direction of a store that ISN'T selling "Non American goods", because I sure haven't noticed any locally. That said, disappointing to think I won't be able to pick up a 119 at Walmart. At least I got one while they were there.

Also funny that in so many threads you get bashed for expressing a preference for American goods, but when it comes to Walmart, we are all about buying American. Seems like all you have to do in America today is repeat something a few times, and before you know it everyone and their brother is parroting the same.

These types of threads never seem to offer much in the way of actual discussion as it pertains to the Buck forum other then possibly a heads up on where you might find a clearance price on a particular model. If someone feels obligated to condemn a particular retailer for their actions there are other forums where that might be more appropriate.
