Walmart Stampede Kills Worker

WTF???

"...customers stepped over him and became irate when officials said the store was closing because of the death, police and witnesses said."

Oh, yeah...It's Xmas season, all right...

Rumors say the shoppers were rushing to the Sporting Goods department to check for holiday Buck knife specials...OK, I made that part up...

Never did understand people that have to have something that bad. Nothing will happen to the animals that killed the poor guy.

The really sad part is...NY Wal-Marts [it was a Long Island Wal-Mart] didn't have any Buck Specials last year (they did have Remington, IIRC), and they likely won't this year either... :(

Crowd dynamics are scary. Your movements are totally controlled by the 500 folks pushing you from behind. Years ago I saw a cow plow through a stout barbwire fence sideways during a stampede on my father-in-laws farm!

Anyway, this WalMart accident is very sad.

Don't know who said this originally, but it does ring true.

"Never under-estimate the danger of stupid people in large groups"...

Just goes to prove that for somethings, you need to pay the ultimate price for coming in early.
Remember that landing craft scene from Saving Private Ryan?

That is why I completely avoid the whole black friday crap. I've never needed any deal on a christmas gift so bad that I needed to stomp some guy to death to get it. The worst part was that when the store announced that they wewre closing people ignored the announcement and just kept on shopping.

The Desert Palms, CA incident at a 'Toys R Us' was even worse. Two wifes fight - their husbands shoot each other to death. Great Christmas for those families, too. I don't know of a Toys R Us around here any more, as they closed a few years back. I never remembered anything they had being a 'deal'. Now, if Bass Pro here ever has a 'Buy one, get one' on S&Ws or Bucks, I'll borrow a flak vest and go!

Still, what a horrid way to start the Holiday Season.

What I read on the Toys R Us fight, the women weren't fighting over anything in the store. It may have been personal, they just ran into someone they didn't like from before. Had kids with them, too.

How would you like to have "Here lies a guy who wanted to save a couple of bucks on some cheap crap from Wal Mart so much that he trampled the life out of a fellow human being" on your tombstone?

Very sad.
I was yakking atTurkey Day chow before this unfortunate death about how whack people are regarding this Black Friday gig. Stores opening at 4AM...and people in line waiting for that to happen. Nuts. But some of the lady folk seemed to think that the early opeing sales were the way to go...but they're the same ones in the family tree that should be pruned (IMHO).

For my fellow old timers...
I'd step on you to see The Who.

Hard to imagine...the news this morning said his windpipe was crushed so he could not breathe. What a horrible thing. The guy was 6ft5 and like 270 and was a temp employee so the store manager asked him to do crowd control.

The family is suing Wal-Mart for not having a crowd control strategy.
