A light spraying of Lysol did manage to tame the strong barnyard smell of the water buffalo leather.

The only thing is that they don't seem to sell the old flavor of lysol anymore (hospital scent). It works quite well if you don't mind having your sheaths smell like flowers for a few days.

Many thanks to all for continued good info :)

Or you could mix up some of Rusty's Kama Sutra Oil with the clove oil and put some of that on your khukuri blade and down the scabbard.
It sure as hay'ill won't smell like a flower garden then!!!!!;)  :D :D

I definately have missed some stuff. :) Oh well, time to start catching up on some more reading. :)

One in a hundred ain't bad though, considering the odds and the equipment deterioration

That is called CHOJI SUTRA oil, Yvsa.

Go buy 8 ounces of Kama Sutra Pleasure Garden oil from a local boutique, and then go to your pharmacist and buy a 2 ounce bottle of clove oil ( used for toothaches ).

The Japanese us choji oil for their katanas, but it's really a mixture of clove ( choji ) and mineral oils. I just substituted the almond, grapeseed, avocado, and sesame oils in the Kama Sutra blend with it's added essences of Jasmine, Rose, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Sandalwood, Rosewood, Ylang-Ylang, Lavendar, and Neroli.

Start by mixing 10 parts of Kama Sutra oil to 1 part of clove oil. You can go stronger if you wish, but not by much. You want the clove oil to add to the scent of the others without overpowering it. I also suspect that the clove oil helps penetrate and soften the leather.

A good application will remain aromatic for at least several months. Ask Yvsa.

Why do I get the feeling that if I went to a local boutique and asked for Kama Sutra Pleasure Garden Oil, the shop owner would call the cops (or at least tell my Pastor) :D .

I'm not even sure if there is a boutique store in western South Dakota... is there a mail order place that'd ship it in a plain brown bag??? :D:D:D .
