Have a customer who got this in Alaska and wants me to use as scales on a knife for him. It is beach washed and the color was just paper thick in depth. How stable will it be to use the scales where the ivory is on the bottom and the tapioca shows. Will the tapioca hold up OK. It will not be totally surronded by ivory and edges of the tapioca will be exposed. Looks like it is marbled with ivory. Here are some pictures. Thanks.

I have folders and fixed blade handles made twenty years ago with fossil walrus core. It is really pretty and very stable. Newer stuff will need time to dry and harden up. Mark Knapp would be the one to ask about that.

It is beach washed. I asked Mark also and he said (like you and Delbert) to go for it. Thanks so much.

I talked with Mark about the "tapioca" and he appears to be somewhat amused about people's dislike for it. He thinks it is some attractive stuff. From what I have read and heard, walrus is kind of the ideal ivory because it doens't appear to have any "weak" parts. I have only played with a couple of pieces, but I really like the stuff. It was much easier to work with that I anticipated.
