Is it worth anything. Because i have an old carving set that has handles of antique walrus Ivory from Alaska that that Grandad bought in the early 40's when he was stationed in Alaska. the knife blade broke before i got it and unfortunatly was thrown away but i still have the handle and the fork( that luckily is still in it's handle). Here are some pictures. By the way i was told by Grumps, AkA Grandpa that the scrimshaw was done by an Inuit, I have no way to confirm that but would be cool if it was true.

First pic is both of them the fork is on top and the knife handle is on bottom.

Pic 2 is a close up of the end of the knife handle the blade was in.

Pic 3 is the fork.

And pic 4 is another close up of just the forks scrimshaw

PS. dose anyone know of a knife maker that might be able to make a rat tail carving blade to match the fork that i could put in the old handle.

The scrimshaw is traditional, I would say it is what you think it is. The shape of the handle material bugs me though, I would say riendeer antler not ivory. May I see pictures of the butt ends of both pieces and side views of both handles from further away please. I could tell you more. There should be plenty of guys around here that can help you with the repair. I would not mind it, myself. Hope that helps a little. Mark

thank you mark more pics will be coming tomorrow got get an early start so i'm hiting the pit early
