That's a pretty cool vid by the maker; thanks. Perhaps some safety glasses would have been a good idea with all that wood flying around though.
 
Nice, thanks for sharing. I would be interested to see how some of your swords fare in such a test, Stuart. I bet they'd do great. I'm thinking I might give that a try with my wakizashi proto.

After watching this, I have to wonder how much stronger is the shinogi-zukuri balde, compared to the hira-zukuri? I bet not much if any!
 
Other things being equal the cross section will determine strength and stiffness and the shinogi zukuri will be stronger and stiffer at the edge... but how strong does it need to be?

Good video post, informative, nice to see someone else bang swords into 2 by 4, though some harder hits would be fun!
