Monosteel katana, W2 Walter Sorrells or 1050 Ron Macy are the current two blades I am looking at. Any information or advice from these two makers?

Thank you.

Ron Macy, Michael Bell's guy?

Both are well regarded. Sorrells has a website http://waltersorrellsblades.com/ and also makes
his own steel/bloom with Jesus Hernandez, another talented smith.

Macy is a student of Michael Bell who also makes his own Orishigane. Don't know if Macy does as well, but
does nice work with cable steel.

The o-tanto on Sorrells page is a super deal....I'd buy it if I had room, but I really don't. That is a steal for a fully polished blade, and with the right folks involved should easily come in less than $1,750 for a fully mounted setup.

I like Ron and he learned right, but I have NEVER liked the look of cable steel in nihonto....so if that is what your are looking at from Ron, you have to decide what you want the blade to look like.

I more concerned with performance that I can afford versus asthetics alone.

Than the choice should be made with that in mind...both should serve you well, but I don't understand why you are not looking at CAS Hanwei....I have been using these swords for years, and they just keep getting better.

No...you want something hand made by a craftsman, instead of a production line, and that is understandable, but as far as I am concerned, not necessarily offering any increased performance benefit.

I use my swords like you used rifle...it's a tool....you use it, it can get damaged or scratched. I look for the best performance at the lowest cost...for me, that is CAS Hanwei.

You are correct in that I do not need something more than a CAS. Everyone claims to have the best and most durable and so far Howards L6 blades seem to be the cats meow in that aspect. Hataya Kunetsu seem to be the cats meow in regards to performance. Figuring out what is truth between everything on the net is challenging.

Finding something that rates first for durability, second for performance and third for asthetics is tough.

I also have dreams of owning a traditional/original sword. I am also researching that (lots of books, lots of reading). I would have tried to purchase a Kanetsugu but it was already sold. It would have sufficed for everything.

Too many dreams, not enough time and money.

Thank you for your help Steven!!

Very Respectfully,
Stefan
