Wow, very nice. I have a couple of walters that had yellow paint. No sticker logos left on them though. Is yours a 2 1/2?

How about making this thread (Walters) the featured axe maker for December?
If this is agreeable, then anyone with a Walters axe is welcome and encouraged to post some photos.

You can drop that off at my place next time you're up here fishing ;-))

I'll repost the double bit from the last run at Walters.

Regards

Robin

This is a Walters from the final run of double bits made at the factory. Morley Walters gave this to my friend just before he died. I've cleaned it up since these shots were taken.

Robin

Robin, did your friend end up letting you keep that?

I still have it here and getting more attached to it every day ;-)) But alas, he hasn't offered it to me,,, YET ;-))
He thold me it had never been used by him but I think old Morley dinged something hard and put a minor dent in one edge. I have cleaned up the edges and plan to redo the helve for him, it's way too thick at the head. I may take the paint off and either redo it or clean up the surface a bit and leave it without paint.
Here's another Walters that I've posted before, a heavily profiled hardwood felling axe in kind of rough shape at the poll but still lots of edge left.

Regards

Robin

Robin, that old walters single bit is still saveable. Just needs a little trueing done on the edge.

I have 3 walters, I will try to get a picture up soon.

Just to be different I'll throw a pic up of an old walters belt axe (scout axe?). Lots of full size axes around, but I find the belt axes are getting rarer. People must still use them, unlike the full size.

Photo sucks (is an old one), but. New handle is on the way, and its been sharpened since then. Nice profile for a belt axe, plus a nice minty poll.

throw an edge on it and hang it and youve got a top notch user axe. I like working axes like that.

I picked up a really snazzy walters black diamond single bit today in exchange for carving and fitting a handle for a guy. I think its around 3 pounds, its in really good shape, just needs some file work and a handle. No pics on this antiquated computer unfortunately, sorry everyone.

Picked this Walters up in CT for $10. Rehung it on the same handle despite there being several metal wedges in it. No work done on the head, just a bit of reprofiling/sharpening. Faint signs of yellow paint.

That's barn fresh, Chris. Great score!

I can't help but notice the irregularities in your wedge. Is that shape just from the compression of the fit or did you customize that wedge?

It's the shape from the compression of the fit and having to remove the old one. It's not a fresh and clean kerf but not sure that matters.
