Wandering the Mountains in Search of a Rocky Mountain Goat

My daughter drew a tag for mountain goats. My daughter, wife, yellow lab, and myself set off on the adventure. We spent three days above tree line hunting. We saw several nannies and kids and a couple billies. After spotting one billy at ~800 yards we snuck into about 130 yards and we couldn't see him. We started tip toeing through the scrubby balsams and spooked him out of his bed at 25 yards. He jumped from his bed and ran straight away - never stopping or looking back and offering a shot. Daughter had a blast and said she would do it again - hopefully it won't be too many years before she draws another tag!

Enjoy the pics:

Looks like it was a great trip anyway, Bruce. That is some fantastic country!

Awesome photography, beautiful country, looks like a great time. Glad you got close, she'll tag one next time

Thanks guys. That's why they call it hunting. Just roaming those mountains with family and a rifle on your back is a privilege and a blessing!

Incredible pictures, view and experience.
Like you said, time with family is the best experience.

Bruce, awesome pics Bro!!! I to love this time of the year. Everything on the move fatting up for the winter. Did you see any bear up on the meadows? Running into a few over here down in the berry patches, both Black and Brown. Gotta keep the head on a swivel:rolleyes:

Russ - No bears spotted on this trip. There was a lot of sign below alpine, lots of blueberry and huckelberries there. Last year sheep hunting with my brother we saw 3 grizz above treeline.

Beautiful scenery and memorable hunt none the less. Thanks for brightening up my day with those mountain shots.

Awesome!! Great way to spend time with the family in the outdoors... and ya, beautiful country for sure.

Thanks for the pics! Really beautiful scenery, and your lab looks like one happy young dog!
