I have an old Wenger SKA that I bought at the L.L. Bean store before I was old enough to buy knives. Well the nail file does not seat right unless you push it back in. It is proud about a 1/4 of an inch. I tried light treatment of Dri Lube. That did not help. Is there something else I can do other than taking it apart or sending it back to Wenger. They do not make this anymore and it has sentimental value.
More often than not, I give issues like that a bath. Wash the knife in warm, soapy water (dish soap like Dawn or Ivory Liquid). Work the pivot back & forth while in the soapy water (be careful; wet, soapy blades can slip away from you pretty easily ). Sticky closing problems like that are usually due to either dirt/grit, gummed up oil, or both in the joint. As you work the joints in the soapy water, you might even notice them loosening up and closing more easily. That's a good indicator that something was clogging up the pivot.
Take the opportunity to do the same with all of the blades & tools in the knife. Rinse it all thoroughly in hot water (~120F, or whatever your hands can tolerate). The hot water rinse well help to evaporate moisture out during drying. Wipe down as much as you can reach, and perhaps give it a spritz of WD-40 to flush out any residual moisture. When you're sure the water has been completely eliminated, give the joints a very light treatment with your lubrication of choice.
That treatment will usually improve things significantly.
