Just wondering what you guys use on your blades. I use Rem Oil on almost everything. I live on the coast and anything untreated eventually rusts away. Is it safe to use on the Becker coating?

buy a BK77 :) before they are gone ;) rust free...

otherwise... i don't care if there's some discoloration or patina on the exposed steel...

Wow the BK77 sure is sweet! Way out of my price range though. I have my heart set on getting the BK2 and I'm sticking to it.

if your bk2 rusts, chops rocks for a while, then the rust will go elsewhere ;)

I use Balistol on my blades, but in a dry climate like Denver, rust usually isnt a major concern! One would have to be pretty careless I think out here...

I use something called PRE-SERV a litlle bit goes a long way. I've had this 4 oz. bottle for years...

Beckerhead #76

I use mineral oil on all of my carbon blades. It's cheap, readily available, food safe, and works really well.

You can soak a small piece of cotton and carry it with you in a tiny zip-loc bag if you need something for in the field. I just wait till i get home to re-apply.

Rust is just frustration leaving the knife.
Use your knives more. :p :D

Hey abrasion, welcome to Bladeforums. The above reply was my smartass answer.
Truth is I use a lot of stuff. Mineral oil is a favorite. I also will use RemOil because it's usually handy.
Another favorite though is Tuf Glide. For long term storage, Marine Tuf Glide is good stuff. It actually leaves a light film on the blade.
I can't imagine that RemOil would hurt the Becker blade coating. I've never seen anything like that reported.

Hey Abrasion....

Camillus used Vaseline to protect the exposed parts, Mineral oil works, Tuff cloth is a fave.......hydraulic oil is both a good sharpening oil and protectant as is WD-40.....If you plan on using the blade for food I suggest mineral oil or vaseline---no taste issue.....Rem Oil will work too and I do not think anything mentioned so far will attack the coating......

All Best....

The original coating should work well, that's its purpose. After it wears with use or if you remove it, I suggest using a couple good coats of paste wax instead of oil. I've been doing that to my firearms for years and IMO it works much better. Pouring rain, who cares it beads up and runs off, never a rust problem. Doesn't wipe off or attract dirt and lasts much longer too.

I use Tuff Cloth because it stores pretty compactly in your EDC carry bag. Never tried RemOil, but I do have a can of it for my XD which I rarely go out and shoot.

I just leave the blood and chunks of flesh of my victims on the blade. Hasn't hurt the black coating yet.
