Push alt ctrl and then the right arrow and watch, lol! :D
Angel, my dog, laid down in my lap and pushed my keyboard into my belly. I guess the right buttons got hit. Lmao, I didn't have a clue how to fix it so I just fiddled around till I lucked up and got it right. :p You just push alt ctrl and the up arrow and the screen goes back to normal. Why would they even write that action into the pc's software?

Ctrl-alt-arrow 14.07.06

If you’re bored and want to freak out some people, hit CTRL-ALT-and a direction key. It’ll re-orient your screen (if you’re using Windows XP, anyway) and can be quite disconcerting!

The things you learn when falling unconscious on your keyb… I mean, helping out colleagues with their IT issues…

Cheers to Davo/Bruce the wandering Canadian/Australian for enlightening me about this.

Update: it doesn’t seem to work on every machine. :(

didnt work for me either. :D

What is it doing, reorienting the screen? That could be useful with some laptops to go from landscape to portrait.

It turns my screen sideways. It works with either side arrow and if you hit the top or bottom arrow it puts the screen back to normal. I'm using Windows XP on a Gateway.

My students do this to each other when we're using the laptop labs. It's funny for a while until everyone knows the trick...

I used to use it when I was in sales so I could lay my laptop screen flat and the customer could look at it "upside down" but see the screen "rightside up". I got really good at running my touch-pad backwards and upside down!

I'm running XP and it doesn't work on my computer. I expect it depends on what video card you're running.

Works just fine on my Dell running Windows XP.

I sure am gonna have fun in my office tomorrow!!!! My boss and I used to go around to do funny things to other people's computers or he would write some script that would come up when they booted up.

Thanks, L6!

Hey, try holding the ctrl alt keys down. I said in the original post to just push them, didn't realize I was holding them down while I hit the arrow key.

Lol Judy, you're gonna have some fun!!!!!!!! :D

You can do this to other people's PCs remotely. If you're nasty, you can not only invert the display, but scramble the keyboard.

Doesn't do a thing on my Dell nor my Sony. Might have something to do with video drivers and virtual desktops (I don't use that feature). It could come in handy for word processing if you can rotate an LCD 90 degrees on its stand so the screen has an aspect ratio more like the shape of a piece of typing paper.

If you want to have some fun at the office , put a little piece of scotch tape over your co-workers optical mouse laser , color the tape with a magic marker and watch the fun begin. :D

Dang, I just tried it on my Boss's computer, but it didn't work. And I held the cntl alt keys down, too. Hm-m-m-m-m....Maybe he will stay yakking in that other office and I can try it again. Then out and about to attack other computers!

On that note... A co-worker and I once changed the marquee screensaver to "Mouse too cold, please keep warmer"

I got in to work the next day, and the warehouse surpervisor (this was the first computer (not-dumb terminal) in the office/warehouse; came up to me and demonstarted how he'd cupped his hands over the mouse and tried to warm it up. He was confused, because every time he just barely touched the mouse, the warning went off...:D
