I'm located in central MN and looking to attempt to heat treat my first two knives (1080). I don't have the need (or cash) for a full 5 Gallon bucket of fast quench oil so if someone in MN would be willing to sell me a couple gallons, it would be greatly appreciated. If you can't spare any, is there a good spot in MN to purchase it so we don't have to pay the high shipping cost?

Thanks
Dustin

Yes, it's plenty fast. Several years back I even called the manufacturer and asked that question. There's some testing on 1095 floating around here and it seems to work well for that as well.

1080 does not need the 'fastest' quench oil. It is high in manganese and fairly deep hardening (compared to W1, W2, 1095).

I got really good results with 1095 and 1080 with the mcmastercarr 11 second. The shipping is cheap too.

Thanks for the tip on this. I ordered a couple gallons of the 11 second oil. Not only did they only charge about $7 for shipping, but the order arrived in 2 days. great place to deal with.

I'm always amazed at how fast McMaster -Carr ships stuff. I never fail to get anything I order the next day.

There is thread with test results of 1095 with mcmaster carr oil on here.. One tester showed 65-66 on pieces from 1/8"-3/16" and another showed 66-67 on 5/32"..That looks pretty dang good to me..
