Last father's day I got a Buck Lux Avid with the 13C26 Sandvik steel and some kind of titanium coating.

It has been missing for the past few weeks and tonight I found it, stuck in the rubber seal of our front load washing machine.

Turns out the stainless and the titanium coating are no match for the harsh washing machine environment.

I promise I will do better in the future :)

I'll let you know how, or if it cleans up...

Yikes! Can't believe it never worked its way out and made any odd noises while operating. I am guessing that if you use bleach for your whites or towels that would have been the main contributor to that kind of corrosion.

This actually surprises me. As my wife lost her Buck Vantage in her Father's front yard in early October 2014. We didn't stumble on to it until this year in late February. It had laid there and been rained on, snowed on, covered in leaves, blowing dust, ect. for 5 months. It didn't have one speck of rust on it and was still sharp. DM

It's interesting to me how only certain spots rusted. Why did only 2 of the assembly screws rust and not all 4, for instance?

I think it looks pretty good considering it's spent a couple of weeks in the washer. That is, assuming you do laundry at least once a week...lol

That's crazy! I had my Buck Lux Pro go through the washer and dryer, I found it still clipped to my jeans. No rust at all. Maybe the dryer prevented that?

The rust could have been accelerated due to being stuck in the rubber seal. The inside of the seals on a front loader does not dry out inside completely and along with the chemicals caused the rust to grow much faster.

A little time with a scotch-brite pad and Rem Oil and most of the rust came off - It took the black coating with it, though. If I disassembled it I could get the rest of it.

sorry for the quick web cam pic. Best I could do right now.

Don't feel bad. I did that with a Case stockman a few years back. I couldn't find it and low and behold it was in the wash. Mine was CV so it rusted pretty good. A little oil, a little sand paper, and a little elbow grease and it was usable again.

Look at the bright side. Now you wont be afraid to get a scratch on it.
