Stomper,
You'll love the BA-E! I found the edge geometry is too obtuse for a knife of this size but that's easily fixed. The exposed tang is smaller relative to the other E knives. At first I didn't see any reason, but using it uncovered either a bit of genius or a bit luck in Jerry's design. The smaller butt 'hook' slipped naturally between my pinkey and ring finger when I tried a bit of light chopping. This gives the knife about an inch and a half increase in effective length. In fact, it's a hell of a chopper for its size simply because of this. Gripping the handle as I would the larger E knives makes chopping almost impossible. I've never used a NO so I can't make any comparison.
As a slicer the knife is great, once I reground the edge. It's at about 22 degrees included with a 90 degree micro bevel. Chopping dry oak pieces does not damage or dull this edge. It has a nice point and a big belly. An improvement, overall, compared to the straight handled BA for field work, if you like E handles that is. They fit my hand like they were custom made. The straight handled BA's handle is a bit too small for me, but it's still a great knife.
