Want new knife, no idea which

I was originally going to go for a BM 741 but I think it may just be too big. I have no way to hold it before buying, so I don't want to take a risk.

My current knives are a BM 710, Kershaw Leek Damascus, and Kershaw Skyline Damascus. My favorite would probably be the BM, so I guess I'm looking for something similar in size.

I'd want something with G10 or CF handles, at least a 3.5" blade, and no more than $220ish.

I just heard about Klotzli Walker and their knives look really good, so if there are any other companies like that who offer unique knives let me know. I just can't pick one out from the usual makers.

Am I correct that you mean the BM741? The new Lum Onslaught it's called. I've seen pics of it beside the 710 and it is a bit longer and definitely wider. Check out the BM 930, or 940/943.

Crap, yeah, hit the "9" instead.

I was thinking of the 930 but wasn't sure about the exposed liner, seemed like it might feel weird to hold. I don't really like the Osbournes at all.

Spyderco Bradley Folder

I'm trying to get that to grow on me, I just hate the way Spyderco blades look. The shape just looks off to me, probably because of the hump where the hole is. I haven't really seen a Spyderco I liked yet.

You might want to check out some European brands.

Lionsteel Daghetta. G10 with Carbon fiber
I'm just going to assume you live in the US. AG Russell sells these, also not a bad idea to check out his other available knives.

Lionsteel (MAX) Opera.

Also in Damascus. Probably hard to get if you do live in the US.
Note: the normal version has a smooth back not like this one.

Böker Exskelibur. G10, also available with wooden handles.

From your list of knives you already own, I'd say the BM 940/943 line but I also happen to like Osbourne designs. Going by size and design, I think it would work well.

And regarding Spyderco, I also though the same thing. Which is why my first Spyderco was a Tenacious. I got it because it lacked the hump. And out of curiosity, I got a Byrd to try out the humped design on the cheap. What a revelation that was! Now 90% of my knife budget goes straight to Spyderco and I can't get enough of these "ugly" looking knives. They're ugly no more. I understand why they look the way they do.

Until you hold one, it's hard to understand why they have such a royal following.

I'll definitely have to check some of those out, that's what I was talking about when I said similar to Klotzli Walker. Only thing I didn't like about them was the blade steel on some. Seems the same with Lion Steel, isn't 440c generally nowhere near as good as D2, S30V, 154CM, VG10 etc?

How about a Kershaw Spec Bump S30V Stone Washed for $53 (new)?

Those I really don't like aesthetically. Same with the ZT knives, just too big and fat looking.

I also forgot to mention I was strongly considering an Emerson CQC8 (would be my first waved knife) but I read some bad things about their customer service.

EDIT: The Spyderco Gayle Bradley is growing on me more and more..

Question is have you ever held any spydie that you like ;)

I never liked the looks of spydies either. Until I learned to appreciate the design after I started to hold different models. Since then, all my BMs, and kershaws have taken a back seat.

You should give the Spyderco Manix2 (G10), or Sage (Carbon Fiber) a try.

I've never heard anything but good about their CS. i love emersons they are among my favorite folding knives, If it werent for the sebbie i probably wouldnt bother with other folders.

Those two over the Bradley or should I go right for the Bradley?

Thanks. I think it's between the Gayle Bradley and the CQC8, although the Bradley is a bit easier on the wallet.

The Emerson Mini Commander is the only less than full sized folder I own and it doesn't feel mini until I compare it to my CQC15 or Persian.
If you're considering an Emerson do yourself a favor and pull the trigger.
A Waved Mini 15 would be a good bet. (I love my full sized.) But if the "Horseman" is the one that "sings" to you...sing back!
Let us know what you choose.

Hmm, no?

The 8 is a great folder. I like it better than the Bradley but it is also way different.

Just as an option, consider the Kershaw Lahar. Tim Galyean design, nice steel, cheap price. Id go for an 8 or a Bradley over that personally, but it's a good budget option if you feel like putting your money towards something else. Im a big fan of the Pro series, but the production gives you some of that without the nearly 500 dollar price tag.

Well I read them on a YouTube video so take it with a grain of salt :p

Looks like my decision isn't quite made yet. Still between the CQC8 and Bradley. I'll get both eventually, just don't know which one right now.

I don't know anything about steel other then the information I read.
I know 440c is cheaper then the steels you mentioned and probably less good.

US branded knives at those prices mostly have a more expensive steel.

But 440c is not considered a bad steel at all, just not a new hi-tech steel.

You get less expensive steel but on the other hand.. just look at those knives.;) Pieces of art instead of tactical/workman looking you normally see around here.

I know you mentioned at least 3.5 inch blade and preferably G10 or Carbon fiber. But you also mentioned some Damascus knives you own, so you do appreciate beauty in a knife.

So I want to show you if I had $220 to spend on a knife what I would be looking at.

Both are Mcusta knives

They are very nice looking knives, but at the same time it's hard for me to buy them if they have a "lesser" steel... I was looking at Mcusta knives as well, for awhile actually. They have a few that jumped out at me, maybe I'll have to throw one of them in the mix as well.

I actually had a friggin dream that I went to some huge knife store and looked at the CQC8 and Bradley last night. I held both but don't remember which I wound up with, and then the store had to close for an emergency snow scare

I have found the Boker Plus 440C to be really well done. I have two BP's in 440C and have used them and found that the edge takes a a very fine edge.

I'm just going to post pictures of some I'm considering so they're in one place.

Too many choices now.

EDIT: Damn, I didn't realize how small the MCustas were :( They're like Leek size.

I haven't handled the Emerson, but that Bradley sure is one heck of a knife from design to materials.
